I could not be more excited to write this review of Denver Decks. We have been wanting to replace our original-to-the-house, builder-grade deck for a while now and had aspirations of expanding the deck to be a size that could accommodate comfortable outdoor living space both above and below. Our experience with Denver Decks was top notch from beginning to end. While bidding the project, Paul came to our house and was incredibly patient with my husband and myself - both very indecisive when it comes to aesthetic decisions and generally we are full of questions! Paul answered everything and provided documentation where necessary. He provided material samples and recommendations, documentation and directions for pulling permits, and CAD renderings of the potential deck onto the back of our house. Once we settled on the design, he directed us to a location in Aurora where we could see larger color samples in person, which was incredibly helpful for the decision making process. He also helped to make design recommendations, and they were great recommendations indeed! He also helped to provide all the documentation to provide to our HOA for design approval. Regarding price, we had 5 companies quote our project. One was a massive outlier to the high end, one was $5-$10k higher, and Denver Decks and two others were all right in line with each other within $1000. Overally, I found their price to be very fair for the project, in-line with others we spoke to, and easy to understand/clearly outlined in the bid. The crew on our project was Wagner, Rodrigo & Alex and I cannot say enough positive things about these three men. The deck itself is built well, very sturdy, and they clearly paid attention to details to make the deck come out nicely. They considered everything from supporting the bricks on the house, to the expansion/contraction of materials. They made recommendations on the care and maintenance of the deck and explained different areas. They handled every interaction with inspectors. The clean-up was thorough and they even power washed the patio and checked for rogue materials/screws so our dog would not get hurt in the backyard after the project wrapped. On top of everything else, they were fully available during the days to answer questions or discuss anything about the project - design, timeline, status, etc. One thing that was important to us was to have the deck built to code, as it was a second story deck. Denver Decks took care of everything related to code - the design, pulling the permit and working with inspectors - and kept us informed along the way. Other folks that we spoke with did not seem to have the same attention to code detail as Wagner and his crew did, and they not only seem knowledgeable about code, but they had zero hesitation when we requested that permits be pulled for the work (other companies we had spoken to in the bid process seemed very reluctant on this score, which confused us!). As far as the finished product, we could not be happier with the deck. It looks wonderful, the design recommendations that Paul made during the quoting stage were great additions, and it looks as though it is part of the house - not an add on. Denver Decks was hands down the most professional, courteous, talented, and thorough crew we've ever worked with. I cannot recommend enough, based on our experience and the finished product.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about working with Denver Decks. From the start of the process in meeting with their Sales Rep, Paul my wife and I had a very good feeling about this company- and I'm happy to say they did not disappoint. We looked at many other deck builders, and what stood out about Denver Decks was the quality of their work, as well as their ethics. The Master Carpenter they assigned to replace our deck did an amazing job, as did their concrete guy who poured a slab for our hot tub. Any type of follow up items after the work was complete have been dealt with right away, which contrasts quite abit from other service providers I have had do project work at my home. I would highly encourage anyone in the market for a new deck to at least talk to the good folks at Denver Decks!!

Philip Tussing provided us with an design that met the requirements we wanted along with an estimate that fit within a budget we were looking for. Our project was set for about a month after we accepted the design which was perfect for us since we were taking a bit of a vacation in that timeframe. Carlos and Robert came out along with some additional crew members and worked very hard in prepping and pouring the garage and patio. They did an excellent job and was impressed with their knowledge. In fact, Carlos mentioned that since the weather was turning wet, they ensured that the concrete took that into account. After the pour we had some rain where we noticed a little pooling around a step and I asked Carlos, Paul and Philip about that issue and they explained that since our home additions were not at the same height there would be a small area where that might occur (about 1/2 of the patio was between the additions). The rest of the patio drains perfect and I was completely satisfied about how was done. The garage was also perfect...in looking at the drainage of the original driveway (which was pointed into the garage) Carlos recommended that he tear out the trouble spots and re-pour that as well which I agreed (it was causing water in our basement). We are so happy that we actually have a floor that and driveway that functions the way it should! Overall, I think that Denver Decks did a great job and would not hesitate to hire them for future work!

After tearing out our wood deck for another construction project, we decided to put in a concrete patio. We called Denver Decks based on their reviews and reputation to create a space where we could put some deck furniture. Additionally, we had them estimate what it would take to pour a new, badly needed, garage floor.

Looked great until I started using it as a fire pit. The top stones began cracking after the very first use, and have grown worse with every use. In total the fire pit has had fire in it 6-8 times in 22 months, the top stone are practically falling off and I now have hire someone else to make repairs.

I can appreciate [Member Name Removed]'s right to complain, although I thought it could have been done through the correct channels and with clarity and full disclosure. [Member Name Removed] did not notify us in any way about this issue before posting a complaint here on Angie's List. After seeing his complaint here, we contacted [Member Name Removed] and he sent us several pictures that were quite telling. The pictures indicated clearly that the fire pit was not used by him as it was designed, but for a bomb fire (not in the pit per say, but piled way above the sides of the fire pit and burning at very high temperatures for an extended length of time). A professional Stone Mason (and a previous Chimney Sweep) told us that it would take a fire burning at 1500 to 1800 degrees on top of these 2" thick Flagstone Top Cap pieces for quite some time to cause this type of temperature fracture in several stones on the same night. At the bottom and inside in the fire pit (where the fire is meant to be contained - for public safety) we installed a lining of all fire bricks that can resist this type of use consistently for many decades, but the top caps of the fire pit are real stone (2" thick Flagstones) and are meant for aesthetics and function (for sitting on) purposes these are not designed for a burning fire surface outside the fire pit itself. Per the current Jefferson County and ICC Fire Codes and the manufacturers specifications, a fire should be maintained, attended, monitored and kept inside the parameters of the fire pit to function correctly and safely. Unfortunately [Member Name Removed] did not happen to mention this fact in his complaint. We are certainly willing to help [Member Name Removed] to remedy this problem.

They haven't done the work yet. They're going to start next week, but they're going to replace our deck. They worked out fine. All of the companies were higher than I wanted them to be, but I just didn't know how much decks cost. I think he did a great job. He worked with us and all the little details and was very patient with us. We went with them above everyone else, I think, because of the price, but also because we trusted the guy. Another big thing, before we chose him, he sent us to two homes to look at their decks that he had done, and that was a big factor. Another contractor said, “Well, if you choose me, I'll let you see them...” And we were like, “What?” We wanted to see them before we chose him. So, that was like a big factor. We could go right in our area, go visit two homes, and the people were very nice. That way, we could see his work and make sure we were happy with it before we chose him. I just talked to the guy this morning because on Angie's List, there's a five percent off coupon and I brought that to his attention. He said, “No, we've never had a five percent coupon on Angie's List.” So, that's just feedback to you guys, that there's little discrepancy there. We had printed it out and everything, but we understand his issue. We worked him down on price and stuff and he's pretty close to breaking even. So we accepted that with another concession he made. So we worked it out with him without demanding the five percent off, but it's something you guys should keep in mind and make sure that that doesn't happen because that's kind of bad, especially for Angie's List.

We are thrilled with our new deck. The estimator was very knowledgeable and helped us get our paperwork together for pulling a permit. We live in Highlands Ranch and they knew exactly what to do for getting the Association's approval. When we didn't have a plot plan, they obtained one for us. The two workers were clean and neat. Each day they cleaned up everything before they left the job site. They always arrived on time and were pleasant and friendly. We never had to worry about their language: no off-color words. What a treat! They were efficient and professional at all times. We enjoyed talking with them. They brought their own lunch each day, but we had them in our home to sit down at the table together. When the job was finished, they vacuumed the outside tracks of our sliding glass door and power washed the new deck. We wish all workers were like them. We highly recommend Denver Decks to everyone; and if there was a rating higher than A for workmanship and finished product, we would give them A++.

Denver Decks did an outstanding job building the hip roof and replacing stairs. The quality of work and professionalism was first class from start to finish. I've had some bad experiences with contractors in the past several years, but that was not the case with these guys. Paul came out in February on a freezing snowy day to discuss the project. He spent about 20 minutes outside measuring and taking notes, despite the weather. They provided a competitive quote and started the project in March. Jim supervised and did much of the work himself. You could tell he took great pride in his work. Took his time (but not too long) and did the job right. The best part was when minor issues did arise (as they always do), Phil, the owner, and Jim addressed them immediately and satisfactorily. During the proposal and build stages they did a great job consulting, providing numerous useful suggestions that really added to the overall quality and aesthetics of the project. They completed everything in April. The roof and stairs turned out beautiful, and matches the house very well. It exceeded my expectations. It looks like part of the house; like it was built with the house. Take a look at the pictures. I highly recommend Denver Decks for any deck/roofing job.

Denver Decks did an excellent job installing our 24'x14' deck with railings and stairs to our new home. Our initial meeting with Paul was great. This was our first time designing a deck and Paul answered all our questions and helped us come up with a design that looks great on our home. The guys that installed the deck (Mike and Jim) did an excellent job. You can tell they take great pride in their work. They were very detailed and I appreciated them cleaning up at the end of each work day. Phil, the owner, occasionally stopped by to check on the progress and spent time to answer our questions regarding the care of our new deck upon completion. We love our new deck!! It looks beautiful and matches the other decks in the neighborhood perfectly. I highly recommend Denver Decks!

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! I have interacted with a lot of companies over the years and I admit I am not always easy to please. I expect quality, good service and to receive what was promised. I met with Paul (actually twice) at Denver Decks at my home. We spent a lot of time talking about all the details of what they could for my wife and I regarding building a pergola to help block the hot summer sun on our back deck. He took his time and answered all our questions. We scheduled a start date and a man by the name of Jim showed up on time and began working. It quickly became apparent the design needed a few changes so work stopped. The next afternoon Philip, Denver Deck owner, came out and spent at least 2 more hours with my wife and I going over the design. Like Paul (the salesman), Philip was happy to listen to our concerns and we felt our satisfaction was his top priority. Work began again the very next morning with Jim arriving on time and working long into the afternoon. In less than a week we had a solid very well built addition to out back yard. The construction is excellent and it far exceeded our expectations. Dealing with this company was a pleasure. Again, I want to mention I am not easy to please, but Philip, Paul and Jim did just that. They all did a great job. You're missing out if you do not call them and get a bid.David.Highlands Ranch.

The first day they stripped to front porch. We offered the workers bottled water and soda. When they left the empty bottles and soda cans were all over the yard. Our lawn people came and picked everything up. They did strip both the front and back areas and applied sealant. After a few days the sealant started to turn white in several spots. We called Phillip out to inspect it. He didn't want to come out - he said it would only be a "social" visit. When he came out he said the sealant didn't gel correctly and they would have to re-strip it and then re-seal it again. On that Monday, they removed all of our patio furniture and put it on the lawn and left. By Wednesday nothing had been done. We called to see when they would come back since the furniture was on our lawn and the lawn people were coming soon. His subcontractor did came out and re-strip the back patio but in the process they damaged several flowers and shrubs. The owner never told us that re-stripping would cause the surrounding areas to be damaged. In addition, his subcontractor brought his 5 year daughter with him. The little girl sat on the patio for a couple of hours. Understand that it was in mid 90's that day and they are using loud machinery and chemicals to strip the patio. We felt sorry for her, so we brought her in. Basically we babysat his daughter while the contractor worked on the patio for 8 hours. The contractor never checked on her. We tried to call Phillip to complain but he just hung up on and has not responded to us. We now have a striped back patio with no sealant. We were going to have them put some new decking on another portion of our patio. But not now. Now we are taking legal action to get our money refunded. This company is totally un professional and we would never use them again.

.I would say they seemed nice enough. they put in a concrete wall I would call them a B-plus. The cost was moderate, but not cheap. It was not terrible. The price was $2,000 so I would say it was moderate to high edge. They did put in a concrete base. It was not just decking, it was protection against flooding. They were good and were nice people. They did a good job. Their responsiveness was good. Before I used them again in the future I would probably get more estimates.

What a GREAT experience I had with Denver Decks! I have an extensive background in the construction industry, project managing build-outs nation-wide. I am very particular about the contractors I hire for my own home and even MORE particular about the work performed. Denver Decks hit it out of the park on both counts! Paul gave a very competitive bid and sent Mike out to build the deck. I explained to Mike how particular I would be, and please give me a good job. In the evening, after Mike had left, I would take my 6-foot level and squares, and check all the work. Everything was always perfectly done: plumb, level, and square. I could not have been more pleased. I even gave Mike a handsome tip when he left. It is really hard to find good contractors these days….and even harder to get a good job delivered to the end! I think good craftsmen need to be recognized, so I gave Mike a nice tip. My home is made out of stucco. There was even some stucco patch-work that was required and that was also color-matched and done perfectly! Call Paul at Denver Decks…..You won’t be disappointed!

July 26, 2015 Let me start by stating a few facts: 1. Stamped concrete work is expensive and 2. Stonework is even more expensive, and given a 20+ life expectancy, you better love your decisions. While it is possible to select styles on a website, factors such as size of your deck versus stamp size must be considered and the contractor has the experience to guide. Careful consideration must be paid to color and highlights, last minute suggestions (while good intended) may bite you in the butt! Further I suggest not committing to a stone style before seeing the final concrete color and sealant. I first contacted Denver Decks in May 2015, I was told they are very busy and it would take 2 weeks before anyone could even come to our home for an estimate (very reasonable for a reputable company as it is peak season). I was pleasantly surprised when the construction lead contacted me 1 week early to inquire about starting ‘tomorrow’. I met the construction lead in the morning and was somewhat surprised when he hadn’t even been provided a paper copy of the design (he was working off of a tiny smartphone screen! The two of us discussed our design and determined the deck would be poured on two separate days, an upper deck, followed two days later by the bottom deck along with some decorative elements. The crew was amicable to minor tweaks; such as curvy vs. straight edge and last minute adjustments to the integration of a step into the pour instead of scabbed on. I must say there was no attempt to minimize the quantity of concrete used, some of the edges were a full 14" thick, this deck was going to last forever! My report turns slightly critical at this point...... and I must insert a caveat here......my experience with concrete is limited to the framing and pouring of several driveways & block wall footings. The first pour was completed on Wednesday and the second was scheduled for Friday morning. Friday weather forecast was for 90+ degrees with the expectation for heavy rain showers in the late afternoon/evening. When I arrived home about 430 I realized they had just completed rolling on the sealant. I was very surprised they had gone ahead with sealant application when heavy rain was expected to begin any minute. In the morning light we stepped out on our significant investment with the following observations: 1. The sealant amplified the colors tremendously, including the last minute contractor recommended highlights (my wife hates the color). 2. The petroleum smell was strong. 3. The entire surface was VERY slippery. 4. There was a white-ish residue that seemed rise from many of the cracks. I touched my finger to it, yip definitely oily and smelled of petroleum. So at this point with the major concrete work was complete, there were a few minor, but significant, details remaining such as re-installation of the rain gutter & installation of the 2 custom built window wells covers. Over the next week the smell faded but the white residue seemed to expand with each rain storm into unsightly clouds covering significant square feet each, driving my wife crazy! Additionally, the deck remained very slippery, even with careful steps I nearly went to my butt several times regardless of shoe type. When I was informed that my 10 year old had slipped to her butt/side and our neighbor had gone down hard bumping her head I upgraded the condition to ‘dangerous’ and decided to take action. The next morning (Saturday), my wife and I, literally spent 3½ hours working with increasingly aggressive brushes and degreasers until finally arriving at a solution that diminished the slip a little on the critical surfaces such as steps anyway. Later Saturday morning I contacted Denver Decks via email (I find a written record useful) informing them of the dangerous slipperiness and that I had mitigated it somewhat. By Tuesday Denver Deck had replied that they would strip and reapply sealant when the dirty work was completed in a week or two (I expecting a responsible business owner to send someone over the next day to address a customers safety concerns). I move now to the stone bench seat and fire pit. Finally we were ready to begin stone work, and despite the pinch in my stomach that i should be there, i chose to not be present. When I arrived home from work I found a beautiful 48” inch circular stone fire pit centered in the lower deck. Unfortunately we had specified a rectangular fire pit offset to one end. By the leads own admission, he ignored an email message with a drawing attached, because he couldn’t open it! At this point I’d totally lost confidence in Denver Decks to make good decisions and felt I had to be present to supervise all remaining work. To their credit, two days later the pit was rebuilt, even incorporating real time adjustments to size to best fit the limited space and supplies on hand. But by placing the pit in the correct location they exposed 3 of 4 pieces of rebar used for reinforcement. So now we have a beautiful stamped concrete deck with 3 locations that look patched! Oh but there was another hang-up; the capstone was not the color we specified. I mentioned this point to the lead, he assured me it was only “2 shades lighter” and being a natural stone mined in New Mexico, had superior Ultraviolet Ray resistant properties and was comperable in quality to the ‘best’ quality fireplace they just installed. While I love the idea of using a natural piece of stone, and appreciate the offer to use a superior product, it felt like he was trying to slip this one in and hoping we wouldn’t notice. Oh wait there was yet another hang-up; the capstone appeared to be drooping on each edge – a tape measure proved 1 edge was a solid 1” lower then the other. So once again I contacted the lead, sent pictures, and he agreed to re-work. After the firepit and bench was completed Denver Deck came back out one last time to close on a few outstanding details: Strip the first sealant with power wash, reinstall the rain gutter, and install the two window well covers. Silica was mixed with the sealant leaving a slightly gritty surface eliminating any slip (outstanding). Denver Deck made such a big stink regarding reinstalling the rain gutter I pulled it from their scope, and will replace it myself. And finally with regards to the window well cover; when I lifted it into place, it fell into the hole. Closer inspection confirmed the cover was fabricated almost 2 inches too short. We discussed this conclusion with company owner (Phil) who rejected it outright and issued a credit for $175, telling us to make it ourselves! While overall i'm reasonably pleased with the end result, several key details fell well short of how i'd expect a reputable company to treat a customer: 1. Handling of the customers high concern regarding slip hazard; 2. Handling of the poorly made window well cover; 3. Choosing to slip-in a capstone of significantly different color, from the customers choice. 4. Not just taking care of the rain gutter, returning it to a pre-construction condition. Craig F.
