We had purchased our house and spent several days ripping out the disgusting carpet left by the past owners and really wanted the floors re-done before we moved our stuff in.  Scott was a recommendation by our realtor and we gave him a call.  He fit us in (which was really nice) since he- and every other company we'd called for an estimate-were booked for at least a month.  We had received 3 quotes, his being right in the middle.  We chose him though because it is just his partner and him so we knew the work would be done well.  The other two companies had "crews" that they would send out.  I wasn't so sure about that.  Like I said, Scott fit us in when we explained our predicament, and even mixed two stains together when I couldn't find one that was just right for me.  The floors turned out beautifully and the new entryway wood matches very well.  The stairs look beautiful; now I can't wait to get a painter in there to paint the stringers and runners to complete the look!

We received four estimates (scope of work detailed above), all in similar price range. Scott Fink (Cutting Edge Hardwood Floors, LLC), Arvada, CO impressed us with his professional attitude and detailed questions concerning our needs during the estimate process and won the bid. Scott and partner Chris comprise a two-man operation, apparently maintaining business relying on word-of-mouth residential referrals. Scott started the job and Chris joined after finishing another job. The job took 3 1/2 days. As part of the contract, my wife Char and I elected to remove and replace furniture, remove carpet, pad, and tack strips, and dispose of the carpet ourselves. While not in the contract, Scott and Chris cleaned up and hauled all trash, other than the carpeting. We cut the carpet into 12 ft by 3 ft pieces, rolled them up, and gave it to waste removal over a period of weeks. Prior to their arrival, we hung 2 mil thick plastic sheeting to limit the spread of dust into other rooms. We have 18 ft ceilings in a couple of areas which made containment of dust a little more difficult. We used 1 mil sheeting to cover other furniture, plants etc at a total cost of ~$30. They arrived every morning at 8am and left from 5-6pm after a thorough cleanup. first installing new hardwood, then sanding, staining, and lastly putting down two hard urethane surface coats. I noticed during their work that they replaced the ~2 ft diameter micro filter in the sanding machine a couple of times. Also, before they started, I installed a new micro filter in the furnace and will leave it in until my quarterly filter replacement. Yes, the house still needs thorough dusting afterwards, but less than we anticipated. Char and I elected to not install a third coat of urethane throughout. Scott said that at a later date, if we move and replace the furniture, we could have a third coat (includes pre-buffing) on the current job area in a few years for a very modest price. A third coat could not be done on the same day, which was another reason for electing to do it much later. We figure that this saves money now and will "refresh" the floor later. Since they "laced" into the existing kitchen red oak hardwood floor, the floorboards did not have to be removed and replaced (they sanded and finished so close to the floorboards, I couldn't tell the difference from the new installation). The finished laced transition from the refinished kitchen to the new living room floor is absolutely seamless. When we look at the new floor, the hardwood is as tight-fitting and smooth finished as expensive furniture! Scott and Chris, at no extra cost, put a hardwood "frame" around the three-sided fireplace which make it stand out in the living room the kitchen-living areas. Without hesitation, I would hire these guys again? ______________________________________________

From estimate to completion, the project went smoothly and professionally. Scott and Matt were both very knowledgeable, helpful, and efficient. They always were prompt and early, considerate, and did work of exceptional quality. They even helped us move some furniture that we were unable to move by ourselves. I would highly recommend this small business for even your biggest flooring needs.
