Terrible. We initially gave him a deposit of $2000. A week prior to when the work was to begin,Mr Kroupa informed us that he was going to have to have bypass surgery. He ensured us though he had full clearance to work until that time from his doctor. We let him know that his health came first and we only wanted him to continue if he wanted to and there was no health risk. Mr Kroupa started the work on May 16th. He was able to complete taking down some temporary walls, a bathroom wall and the electricians he subbed out to got started. (Mr Kroupa had two workers that day and he completed very little of the work himself). On the 16th we gave him another deposit of $3100 to pay the electricians and $4300 for material and labor for a deck. On May 18th Mr Kroupa went back to the doctor and his surgery was scheduled for June 10th. We informed Mr Kroupa that we would not be able to start on the deck as planned as the HOA had not found a roofer to fix the roof which needed to be done prior. We started to have concerns on Mr Kroupa health as on Tuesday and Wednesday he only worked a few hours and only was able to install the kitchen sink and faucet. We asked Mr Kroupa to just focus on the bathroom over the next 3 weeks. He said he would not do it as he could not complete his part and would not allow subs to finish without his supervision (even though he had my husband oversee the electricians that Monday). We then even offered $1000 that Mr Kroupa could use for additional labor. He never acknowledged that email. Considering that the whole job was to take less than a month this raised even more concerns about Mr Kroupa's health if he could not finish the bathroom in 3 weeks with additional help. Mr Kroupa also told us that he would need at least 6 weeks to recover after the surgery instead of the 4 he originally said. At this point we not only felt Mr Kroupa could complete the work but he could be putting his health at risk. We then asked for a bill for work completed which came to $2054. Some of these tasks were not fully completed and some were at a higher rate than in our agreement (he charged us $50/hr for the additional help he brought on when he said any additional carpentry help would be $39/hr). Despite this we were willing to settle on the $2054. This would be covered by the original $2000 deposit and $54 from the second deposit. We asked that our keys be returned and the 4300 deposit for the deck. After numerous unanswered calls and unreturned emails, Mr Kroupa finally said on May 29th that he would mail a check and the keys that weekend. As of today we have not received either one. We just got one response back on June 4th that did not send either the keys or deposit as promised. I tried several additional calls and email to get status. Finally letting him know if he did not provide status by noon on the 5th that I would need to take additional action. We feel Mr Kroupa is not responding on purpose in order to not refund the money prior to his surgery on the 10th. We just want our keys and deposit back. We went to court with Mr. Kroupa and won our judgment. He currently owes us over $5000. The judge ordered him to pay us and he contacted us. He is filing for bankruptcy and asked if we would accept $2500 over a time of 12 months. Sadly this is only half the money he owes us.

Jim did a great job.  The pass-through looks wonderful.  It's a challenge to work on a 100  plus year-old house.  Nothing is square and original moldings are no longer available.  Jim's work blends in perfectly with the Victorian features of the kitchen.

Service provider sent message asking me to describe work to be done. I sent message describing desired repairs (including pictures) Service provider responded that he is booked for next two months, and he cannot schedule any more work. I would want work done in less than 2 months anyway.

He always seemed so very confused. He even showed up at the incorrect address for the first meeting. It took a month to get me an estimate. When I asked about the value of the angie's list coupon, he didn't understand how that worked. I told him that I paid Angie's list already for the coupon and it has a value higher than what I paid, that is why it is called "a big deal". He thought I was trying to cheat him...far from it. I have asked the customer service people at Angie's list to contact him and explain how the whole "big deals" work.

Jim was very professional and great to work with. He did a great job with the stairs, was very accommodating with his schedule to meet our timeframe for completion and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend him.

They did a great job.  My husband dealt with the cost but I think there was a small additional charge because he had to cut it out first as it was very customized but he kind of managed all that.  He was very knowledgeable.  We needed to have someone who kind of knew exactly how to make this happen and he was extremely knowledgeable.

We purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out very good.

He is terrific and we are hiring them to do the job. He came out on the same day that we called them. He was great.

Jim was professional and did very good work. My wife and I were very happy with how things turned out.

As I had mention above, meeting with Mr Kroupa was very good.
Did not like some of the protection of property. If the contractor would damage anything inside or outside he would not be
responsible.
I feel if you damage something you fix it or replace it.Only my opinion.
I liked that the contractor I used,as he had it broken down in work and material cost he would supply and an approximate cost of material I would be responsible for.

It turned out great.  The lumber was nice grade, he assembled it in a sturdy manner - just what I wanted, and he also painted it properly so it is holding up well.  He used an enamel so it is smooth and washable when little and big hand-prints get it dirty.
He came when he said, finished it quickly, and the charge was very affordable.  I am now having him do some upgrades to a rental condo and also another small remodel project in my bathroom.  I appreciate that Jim shows up when you expect him and is good about keeping in touch.
