We needed to replace the concrete under our covered porch as the concrete had dropped and the porch supports were no longer touching the cement pad. I asked about getting a construction permit - but was told by the firm that one was not needed as we were merely "replacing" an existing structure, so one was not necessary. This would only delay the job, according to the firm. (BIG mistake on my part - I should have insisted on one). Within two months, the new concrete walk and porch cracked in two different places. I contacted the firm (John Fleisher) who was not very responsive to my calls. When he finally did call back and come out, he did not want to repour the concrete and said that it was not that "bad" - we could fill it in with caulking. The old concrete which he replaced was over 16 years old and even though it sank, hadn't cracked in all those years. For this job, Badger replaced the underlying dirt beneath the porch and walkway, saying that it was probably not very good -- but their "backfill" was apparently not compacted enough and caused the cracks. The cracks have continued to get larger and to spread - which I am reminded about each time I enter my front door. Plus, they left quite a bit of debris (chunks of old cement, as well as "blobs" of new cement) around the base of the house, as well as soda cans and other food packaging materials. They trampled several bushes as well, leaving quite a few broken limbs. My understanding was that he was going to replace the porch supports but we had to pay a carpenter (suggested by Fleisher) to put new wood supports in, which added to the total cost of this job.
