Fantastic job. Carpet was removed from bedroom and office and the floors were refinished and matched the hallway and living room floors perfectly.

They did a great job. They pulled out the carpeting and prepped it excellently. They were extremely neat and I would highly recommend them.

Spectacular! Mike and his team were so responsive and so nice. They kept me informed every step of the way as to what rooms I needed to have the knick knacks cleared so they could move the furniture. They were so careful and so helpful to me as I'm undergoing some medical treatments that have kind of knocked me out. the job they did was fantastic and I'm using them again for my sister's home. I cannot recommend them more highly!

In construction it’s always hard to find someone who does the job right and honors their promises. Mike Pillar and his guys are good to their word. Their quote was fair, amongst the lowest I received. The work was high quality, the guys were clearly experienced and knew how to lay a floor, spending plenty of time to get it level first. When I had concerns about something, they took the time to fix it. They worked around me doing other construction projects at the same time and changing my mind. Had some serious issues with the subfloor upstairs- again they came through, fixing the problem instead of patching over it like the previous floor guys had done. I would definitely work with Mike Pillar and Sons again and would recommend their services to friends.

Did great work. Very professional. 
Sanded and refinished our oak floors for the second time. Came out great. Great Service, fair pricing and no surprises.

• We had a tight schedule with a upcoming move in date. Mike Pillar came to our new home, and got back to us with an estimate. We decided to accept his bid, selected one of the samples that he provided, and went to his shop to sign the contract. At that time we were told that the wood that we had selected was not in stock, and it would take six weeks to get. He suggested an alternative, that was available immediately. We were disappointed but had a time crunch, took the new sample to our home, and determined that is as an acceptable replacement, (although visibly was inferior quality 25% thinner), than our original selection. The following week, we met with the installers, and proceeded to leave them to work, when the foreman came running after me, and wanted to show me that the wood that they were installing, did not match the sample, that was still in my house. It was clearly a different dye lot. I was very upset and got in touch with Mike Pillar. He insisted that it was the same, even though myself, my husband, and his employee clearly saw a difference. I was thrilled to find out that the original wood that we had selected suddenly was available, however, we were now being charged an extra $680 to get the floor that we were originally quoted on. The explanation that we were given for the price increase was that the stairs cost more with that wood, even though that flooring isn't even on the stairs. The stairs are stained wood. In the end the quality of the work, and the overall pricing was good. I didn't appreciate the bait and switch tactics, the unreasonable price increase, or the way that I was spoken to by the owner.

Workers were punctual and very professional.  They worked hard each day and our home is now absolutely beautiful.  They also worked with us to allow us to continue to live in the condo during the job.  Wood work on the stairwells is exceptional and even artistic.  They cleaned up daily at the conclusion of work.  Very careful with our furniture and related items in all rooms. A wonderful experience and result.

We had used this firm earlier on a job in the mid-Los Angeles area with similar results.

It went outstanding in every respect. They were courteous, clean, careful while moving our belongings, and very sensitive to our needs. They did an outstanding job and our floor looks gorgeous. I would highly recommend them and give them an A++.

The entire job went very smoothly. The crew was terrific and consulted me on every aspect of the job. I could not be more pleased. I would recommend them .

Very professional company and the crew was very clean and punctual. Right from the start we were instructed the whole job from beginning to end. The material of my choice was order even if it was something they did not carry. Mike and Michael were very responsible and came daily once or twice to inspect the job site. I was able to stay at my home while so much was going on and I could not have been more happier with their work and friend and family won't stop complimenting the beautiful floors.

The 2 workers, both named Miguel were punctual and very professional. They really know their stuff and were a good source of information as to the future care of the floors. They were very good at relocating furniture despite some tight spots through which they had to maneuver. The floor is gorgeous- don't want to even tread on it!

Ricardo, the guy who actually did the job, was fantastic. Very friendly, helpful meticulous and a true artist. He was super professional and helped us choose the right color for the floors. We thought of dark initially, but in the end we decided on a light golden stain after he provided several sample stains on our floor. It looks beautiful, like new (and the floor might be very well 50 years old!). We paid some more money since we wanted the floors finished with "bona traffic" (sealer). Thank you Ricardo - and your helper - for a great job!

The three day job went smoothly and without incident.  The hardest part appeared to be taking out and putting back the furniture, and they did this very well, without breakage.  I would definitely use this firm again.

We had many quotes and Mike Pillar was certainly not the lowest, but we'd read great things from Angies list. We couldn't be happier. From the beginning Wendy (the saleslady) was very patient with showing us everything she thought appropriate to our tastes. After many samples back and forth to our home, we were finally ready. Mike came to the house, measured everything, and took special notice of kitchen/bathroom transitions plus a weird fitting french door we had just installed. Our specific flooring was on back order so we had to wait 4 weeks for it to come in, which it did right on time.
For the install, day one was carpet removal, grinding old tar off the concrete and floor leveling. Everything was covered and a few heavy objects were moved to the garage. Days two and three were actually laying the wood. The crew answered my many questions and took special care to make the room transitions flush, as opposed to putting in those wood risers that people trip over. The areas around the french doors really look great.
A couple days later we noticed an unforeseen problem and the next day they were back and fixed it in a jiffy. No problems found since. I installed the baseboards myself so I can't comment on what type of job they do on those. Compliments keep pouring in from our friends and neighbors so we won't hesitate to recommend them in the future.

I had gotten a bid from this company several years ago. When I called to get the work done- they remembered me- and used the same bid to do the work. I was under a very tight deadline - and they accommodated my time line- even over the 4th of July week-end. The guys who did the work spent a lot of time on each phase including draping plastic in doorways to block the dust. When it was all done- the tape did take off some paint around my kitchen area- but they did bring that to my attention- other than that- everything went really well. My wood floors look amazing. I wish I had done this years ago.

First, their approach to the sale was consultative and not pushy.  Other vendors on Angie's list (even highly rated) are concerned with hard sell and up sell.  Mike Pillar's staff was concerned with doing the job right.  Very professional approach.  While other installers we interviewed were most interested in getting us to agree to the sale, Mike's staff was concerned with getting the layout right. They carefully considered layout and made sure they got it right and never pressured in the sales process.  

Also, their prices were very fair. This was a fairly big job.  It took 9 days.  Great attention to detail from the entire crew.  The preparation was really well done.  They even did special touches that were not originally part of the specified job. Overall great experience.  Next time I would use Pillar and not worry about getting multiple bids.
