Master Builder Group

Gabriel the registered salesman from Master Builder Group came to the house to quote a bathroom remodel. My wife and I signed a contract and paid a $1000 check to start a design immediately. We were told that everything we wanted would cost $26,500. We were promised trips to other successful bathroom projects. We were promised interior design help. We were promised they would meet our construction schedule dates. Written on the contract we signed was a note "Bathroom remodels(sic)/ detail will be email(sic) tomorrow." No details followed until a week later. When the "details" email arrived it did not include significant cost items of scope i.e. frameless glass shower enclosure, cabinetry material construction details etc. The scope was less defined than the original estimate. In other words, I had no evidence that Master Builders Group had done any planning whatsoever. Since we were drawing within several weeks of our desired schedule and our progress was going backwards I immediately sent in the notice of cancellation with the contract pointing out the 3 day cancellation was from the time they finally gave us details. I did not threaten anything. I simply wrote a formal letter with the CEO's full name, contractor license number, company name (spelled according to the official license look up on the California Consumer Affairs website) their address and also with all documentation attached including the cancelled check. In other words, everything I would need to make claims with the BBB and in a court of law. According to the contract we signed, the contractor was to demo out the existing bathroom June 25th and we were to pay $10,000 dollars at that time. If Master Builder Group had delivered design details and started to order materials based on our selections we would have continued on the timetable but Gabriel and other parties at the firm gave us nothing to make us believe that this project was being planned. Master Builder Group is licensed on the California Consumer Affairs website in good standing but what they say versus what they deliver is cause for concern. They did refund our $1000.
