FRY'S ELECTRONICS

Brought in the computer to service department, described problem.  Was told repairs would take 5-8 days and charged $70.00.  Eight days later we called about progress only to find they had not yet inspected the machine.  Went to store to retrieve computer in order to get it repaired somewhere else, whereupon the technician complained that we had not given them enough time.  We reminded him of the 5-8 days promise and he said, "You only called 2 hours ago."  We asked, "What did you find out in those 2 hours?"  And the response was,"I was at lunch."  We asked for a manager to inform them of this lack of interest on the part of their technicians and to get our money back, whereupon we found out that we were not even supposed to be charged before any services were performed.  So then began another contentious round of wrangling with various employees to get our money back.  Imagine trying to offer us store credit at this point!  None of the managers in the store had authority enough to give us cash back; this would require another trip to the store the following day, which we did, only to have another contentious round with various managers until we finally said, "Look- we were told yesterday that only the store manager had the password needed to give us cash back.  Stop fighting us and get the manager!"  Their response was something like,"How did you know that?"  They continue, every step, to treat you like a moron, to attempt to wear you down, in hopes of getting you to re-spend money that you already realize you have wasted at their store.  Finally the manager appears and informs us that we will have to accept a check by mail in two days, that they cannot give a cash refund in the store. 

Fry's Electronics is the worst kind of retailer - fast to take your money, unresponsive and combative once they have it, and they don't even follow their own rules of conduct.  They even re-sell items that have been returned as defective by cutomers without clear labeling.  I have had several experiences like this over the years, and I can only conclude that this type of conduct is offically sanctioned by their upper management.  You would be doing yourself a big favor to do your business elsewhere unless you enjoy driving back and forth from home to the store and pointless verbal confrontations.

They were professional, and helpful.It was an entire satisfactory experience. We bought the cheapest one they had.

IT WAS A LONG WAIT WHEN I WAS IN THE STORE, BUT THEY GOT IT DONE WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE REPAIRS WERE SATISFACTORY.
