Santiago Mendoza of The Art of Tile had previously done tile work for me for a bathroom remodel in my old condo 6 or 7 years ago, and had done an incredible job with the natural stone tile that I had chosen for the bathroom. The stone had a lot of variation, which I liked, and Santiago spent a lot of time arranging it to best effect. Unfortunately I then lost his contact information before beginning a major remodel on a new house. We started with a different tile layer who was completely out of his league in dealing with natural stone tile and glass tile that I had chosen for two different bathrooms, and we had to let him go. Luckily I was able to get Santiago’s contact information through a mutual acquaintance, and he stepped in to salvage the project. He and his brother exhibited a meticulous attention to detail and significant artistic sensibility. They did some incredibly fine tile cutting and fitting for some borders and edges. Santiago spent most of a morning shaving 1/4” to 1/8” off the drywall of a kitchen ledge so that the tiles would line up perfectly. He and his brother ground down and re-sloped the concrete basin of a shower where the previous subcontractor had angled it incorrectly; that shower now drains perfectly. He was also able to recut a granite top for a shower bench that had been mismeasured (the stonecutter had not fully accounted for the depth of the tile and mortar). His work has always been professional, meticulous, and very reasonably priced for the quality of the work. There are no surprises. He has been working in tile and stone for nearly 40 years and absolutely knows what he is doing. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
