I received an AHS home warranty with the purchase of a condo. When the AC didn't work, AHS sent Relaxed Heating and Air. At the first visit, the repairman said he needed to charge me $80 for "coolant" which wasn't covered by the warranty and said that AHS would not allow him to test anything else until he had put in the coolant. He didn't even look at the part of the unit that is inside the condo, only looked outside. He put it in and presented a bill for $123! This obviously didn't stop the noise and didn't cool the condo. I called AHS who said they would send them back and "If it is the same problem according to the technician, you won't be charged another $75." Visit 2, claimed it needed a new motor. He took the part numbers and said he needed to clean the unit for $280. I said no. I got multiple phone calls from the office about how you shouldn't put a new motor in a dirty housing and how I should pay for it. "Technician" came back and had the wrong part which didn't fit....said he'd get the right part first thing in the morning and set up another appointment. Got more phone calls from office about cleaning. I said no. Next day, I called the office; they claimed they couldn't contact the technician by phone or text, so I called AHS. Funny thing, 10 minutes later, they said the tech was on the way. Visit 4, he put in new motor with correct part. He told ME to "turn off the breaker." (Pretty brave--isn't it HIS job to make sure it is off?) New motor runs (old motor ran too). Condo still doesn't get cool. I called another company, fully knowing that AHS wouldn't cover it. They did not know what company had been there before but were shocked at the "cleaning" story. They said that any time they install a part, they clean the housing, area, or whatever as part of the installation and that cleaning the housing amounted to 5 minutes with a hand held vacuum. They also said he should have cleaned the fans while he had them out, using the hose that is right outside the condo and the dirty water would have run down the drain right there. They did say that there was a chemical cleaning available, but that just rinsing them off with the hose would have done 95% of the cleaning. The new company evaluated the system while wearing their masks and paying attention to social distancing. They confirmed that the new motor was running correctly by using a thermometer (Relaxed tech didn't do that). He gave me his recommendation, and said that he wanted one of his superiors to recheck his work and give me an estimate, probably the next day. He gave me the man's name. About an hour later, I got a phone call asking if he could come between 3 and 5 that same day. He showed up promptly--again, mask, distancing. Checked EVERYTHING. Took measurements, and said he would have to check on availability. E-mailed me a quote less than 24 hours later. I reviewed all the HOA rules with them. Yes, he knew all he rules, they had installed a new AC for the HOA president and work on most of the units in the building. I'm totally happy with everything the new company did. Bottom line--the AC was original equipment in the building and needed to be replaced. My opinion--AHS sends the cheapest company they can get, and Relaxed Air they tries to get additional money from the client while not getting the job done. I would stay as far away as possible from Relaxed Air!
