Auto Service
They did replace the parts starting with the cheapest, but this ended up being the most expensive way to go. They semi-incapacitated my engine for nearly a month, it was subject to stalling at critical times, and I barely missed an accident several times, but the mechanic was unresponsive to correcting this. Much of the delay was for the last, and most expensive part, the distributor. While it was available next-day at the local parts store (right across the street), but it took several weeks to get it "from the East Coast", and there has been shipping glitches due to a hurricane. What they were doing was buying it online for $100, as opposed to the parts store which charged $250. I checked this out myself after the fact. What they charged me was $400! And the other two parts were marked up about 50% over what I would pay retail at the parts store. When I complained they told me be grateful they did not charge me more! To complete my humiliation, and while in shock at a bill for $960 which should have been, at worst $600, I paid by credit card thinking that was safe. Turns out the credit card people can't help you if you are over-charged, even severely over-charged! Good lesson for me, do not do it yourself.
The tuneup was ok. Getting tires from them is ok. But I would recommend that you get everything in writing before giving them your business, and especially the pricing on the parts. In 30 years in Willits, this is the first time I have been "ripped off" for professional service.
