On 9/1/15 I called the owner of United Building Service Mechanical for a free estimate on an A/C repair for my duplex in Citrus Heights (about 1 hour from me). Technician (Cecil) went out on 9/3/15, called and said he knew exactly what was wrong, and that the repair would cost $169.50. I gave my OK. One hour after Cecil left I got a call from the owner who stated " I just got a call from Cecil and he only put a band aid on the repair and it will REALLY cost ANOTHER $800. So when do you want to schedule that?" I replied "Are you crazy? I'm sure that's illegal. If you had told me the truth that the repair would really cost almost $1,000 I would have gotten other estimates!" When I received the invoice the entire work order was totally unreadable (model #, serial #, "new part" installed, and what work he'd done). I immediately called the owner and said I needed a TYPED work order. After several phone calls I have yet to receive that. Since the A/C still needs repairing I shouldn't have to pay the $169.50 for misrepresentation.
After receiving a demand letter from a collection agency this month I called them immediately. After explaining the situation, they put me on hold, called the owne,r and came back to me and said "the owner says that since they DID put a band aid on the A/C, they want to be paid." He then started threatening me about what he/they could do to my credit if I didn't PAY RIGHT NOW. I said "don't threaten me" and hung up. That's the last I heard from him/them.
