(This is long. Skip to the last paragraph to get to the bottom line.)
I went to De Sousa's Furniture Restoring based on reviews on Angie's List. Unfortunately, my experience did not match the reviews. My initial estimate was made via email. After a couple of exchanges, I was given a rough estimate. When I visited the shop to drop off the furniture, it wasn't the person who responded to the email messages and presumable owner, George De Sousa, it was Prasad who dealt with me. Prasad inspected the furniture and gave me a written quote that was close to the quote from George via email. I was satisfied with the quote and dropped off the furniture with the agreement that it would take a few weeks and he would call me to come down and select a color after he stripped the furniture. This was in October.
After about a month, with no word, I called and spoke to Prasad again. He said that they were very busy and it would be a few more weeks before he got to it. Again, we agreed that he would call me and I would select the color of the stain.
Another 3 weeks went by and I finally got a call from Prasad...but it wasn't to tell me that the furniture was stripped and to come down and select a color of stain, it was him asking if I needed the furniture before Christmas. I told him that I didn't. Again, we agreed that he would call me to select the stain.
The next call I received was in the first week of January. Prasad informed me that the pieces had been done. He had never called me to coordinate with me about the color of the stain.
When I viewed the furniture, I was shocked to see how light the color was. I stood looking at it in disbelief. To his credit, when we talked about the fact that he was supposed to call me about the stain, he didn't argue. We briefly discussed him restraining it. However, the more I viewed the furniture, the more liked the color. Finally, I told him the color would
be OK, and I started to look at it more closely. I noticed that the inside of the drawers of one piece hadn't even been touched. Only the exterior wood had been done, so I asked him to do the inside too. Prasad agreed.
A few days later, Prasad called to tell me that it was done and they were ready to deliver the furniture. We scheduled it and they arrived on time and carefully brought the furniture into my house.
Here's the biggest problem: once the furniture was in my house, I cleaned it and carefully inspected it. They had not even done the top of one of the pieces. For as much as I paid to have these pieces done, I expected quality workmanship. What I received was far less. I am extremely disappointed with the result. I would not use De Sousa's again, and I do NOT recommend them.

I was very pleased with the results. You can't see any bit of the damage that had been done.
The finish on our solid oak table top had been damaged by a caterer's chafing dish that blistered the finish. We looked at Angies List for referrals for refinishers and located De Sousa's. We sent photos to them and they gave us a quote from looking at the pictures. The quote was exactly what we were charged.
The cost of pick-up and delivery seemed very steep ($95 each way), otherwise the price was in line with the other two I had checked on.

They were excellent to work with, but I decided to just purchase a new sofa. They were very good to work with.

We had two bar stool seats reupholsterd with leather material. The selection was extensive and the proprieter was careful to send back blemished leather that came in at first. The work was done promptly once the better material arrived and the quality of work was excellent. Most of all, the proprietor was very pleasant to deal with...a throwback to the old days of good craftsmanship. We were very pleased with the work and service. Thank you George and Lesley!

We were able to get a general quote by sending photos by email. We scheduled the couch to be picked up between 8am and 10am, but I ended up having to call the company and the truck didn't arrive til 2pm.
Repairs were done in about a week and the couch was returned promptly.
The couch is like new and despite the late pickup we're very happy with the results.

I had an excellent experience with De Sousa's. Phone communications were prompt and courteous. I was able to email pictures of the furniture to them for an estimate. I provided them with fabric that I had purchased and they came to my house to pick up all the furniture and the fabric. I sent a detailed email to them describing which fabric should go on which pieces. I hadn't planned on getting the wood refinished, but they offered the service and an estimate when they picked up the furniture. I had the furniture back in less than 2 weeks. The workmanship is superb. I didn't realize how saggy the cushions were until I got them replaced. They said the love seat was broken and they repaired it for no extra charge. The loveseat has curves and many seams, and they lined up the new striped fabric perfectly. I would definitely recommend De Sousa's services to anyone seeking refinishing and re-upholstering.
