"Hello [Member Name Removed], I'm the owner of this business, and recently I took over the client relations from an employee that was too comfortable in his position. I am revisiting all the problems reported by prospective clients like yourself. We have employees for each specialty, and perhaps they were not available at the time that you requested. So we may have sent someone to assess and see if they could do it. We searched our database and we could not find anything close to what you are referring. Can you give us some more information? Then I noticed your location is in Phoenix AZ. Would that be a case of mistaken company identity? We do not serve outside of Los Angeles. If so, please remove the review. Otherwise, please give us your address here so I could research what happened. We are trying to identify the problems to prevent what happen to you to happen to anyone else. Thank you for your review. Roney"
The workers were courteous, considerate and professional, responsive to our requests, and left the worksite clean and tidy.
We were pleased that contractor was able to find tiles and grout to match existing bathroom tiling, but there were delays in finishing the job, due to tiles and plumbing parts needing to be special-ordered. With better planning these could have been ordered and delivered prior to work starting, so the job would have taken less elapsed time.
independent switch to exterior light previously switched on timer.
Prep
and paint all surfaces in bathroom including sink cabinet and interior
and exterior of leaking shower; fix leak. I asked, do you want
window, cabinet, and door hardware on and you can mask it or do you want
it off and you can paint freely and then put it in (existing hardware
already removed because I had planned to paint it myself)? They said,
leave it uninstalled so we can add it in later without paint all over
it. Somehow they managed to install it in such a way that it fell off a
few days after the tenant moved in a few weeks later and still managed
to glob paint all over the hardware.
I asked them to address the
leakage of the shower in the course of prepping and painting the
bathroom. They replastered but did not address the leakage so that the
leak caused the plaster to again bubble up and fail within four weeks of
the tenant's occupancy.
They failed to paint the sink
cabinet. When I brought this to their attention they promptly came out
and painted it but W** with all the rest of the lame work - why not at
least paint the obvious surfaces they agreed to paint? Much
inconvenience for a fix that should clearly have been done the first
time.
For the electrical work, the request was to provide a
switch for an exterior light. It took five or six hours of labor for
them to supply a conduit, the wiring, and the switch between a light
fixture and the newly installed switch that was four feet away. I don't
know about that. They said it was extremely complicated and I don't
see why, but I give them the benefit of the doubt because I am not an
electrician, but still... four feet of conduit and a switch taking five
hours at $65 per hour????
Overall, the other two handyman people
I contacted through Angie's List scheduled appointments for estimates
and then failed to show up at all; these guys returned my call, but I
was hoping for more than merely that. I have to admit I have not even
reviewed the other two. The Ultimate Handyman gave me (inaccurate and
lowball, IMHO) estimates over the phone but i have to say, to their
credit, at least they showed up and attempted to do the work. I respect
them for that but showing up and doing lame work is not what I expect
for paying the high dollar I feel they charged. In retrospect,
half-assed handyman services are not worth $65 an hour, especially when
charged by a contract agency that does not QC the suppliers and the
work..
My advice is, be very clear as to scope of work - are
you clearly asking them to fix a permeable surface or just asking them
to plaster over what is obviously an ongoing leak? How long will it
take to add an electrical switch? If they are going to paint, is it
super, crystal, beyond any shadow of a doubt, explicitly clear that they
are also going to prepare the surface so the paint does not immediately
peel off?
I would not use these guys again but I also failed to
get estimates from several vendors who were at least willing and able to
come and estimate. I went with these guys based on a telephone
estimate and the fact that they were willing to give a firm estimate
(which turned out to not be firm) and to commit to a specific time to
come and do the work (which they also failed to show up for, but did
come within a day or two).
Cannot recommend this company.
Kudos to them for organizing what appears to be a coherent, structured
set of services but they do not begin to deliver on that promise.
Ultimate Handyman is lame and you would be just as well off, and would
save a lot of money, by going through alternate vendors.
"When someone tell us in advance that they are from Angies list, with the hopes of getting better treatment or better prices just because they pay a membership to obtain my information, I'd rather not do business with them. The probability of this being a negotiation technique, it is obvious that any smart business person will either pad their prices to cover for the special treatment or they will walk away before self-entitlement settles in and relationships get sour. Note that all of our negative reviews are those that somehow we turned down or walked away. So be a wise shopper, don't tell anyone that you are an Angie's list member until you hired the professionals and obtained the services that you are contracting. Only then a review will depict the true nature of the business. Thank you for the good rating on pricing even though our price was inflated. Best regards"
They have a flat fee for the 1st hour, then each additional hour that's broken down by the quarter hour. With 10 minutes to go, he asked if I had any more projects and darn if he didn't hang a mirror on the hall door for me in 10 minutes (or less!).
They were prompt. They came out quickly to address my issue. Their price was good too.
