  In late summer/fall 2015, I started looking for a contractor that  installed lawn irrigation  systems.  My plan was to get several estimates, and have everything set to be installed before May 2016 for the summer season.  I was new to the Arlington area and unfamiliar with local contractors, so I used Angie’s List.  I ended up using The Sprinkler Doctor owned by Bob Hiltz. Let me tell you why I am so happy that I did.  The easiest way to do this is to discuss the process I went through:

 

1.   I called Bob, and left a message that  I wanted to  get an estimate for a lawn irrigation system. FIRST SURPRISE… Bob actually returned the call the next day.  We discussed  what I needed and set up a date for Bob to come to my house.

2.   SECOND SURPRISE, he actually showed up on time. We reviewed what was needed, and the products. to be used. Where we differed Bob said he could use either one, and it wouldn’t affect the price. However on some points he showed why his suggested product would perform better, and require fewer repairs…so glad that he took the time.

3.   THIRD SURPRISE He called back WITHIN A WEEK  and gave me an estimate.  The price was very reasonable and fair. I told Bob that I selected him and that I wanted to have the system installed and operational by May 1, 2016. Bob agreed the date seemed doable, and he would install as soon as the weather was warm enough. He didn’t  ask for a deposit or  a signed agreement.

4.   Fortunately we had a mild winter. I called Bob in late March to select an installation date. Bob suggested that we do it on March 31 since he would be so busy in April turning on existing customers’ systems . So we agreed on a date, the details of the contract and he sent me written contract  covering  what we had agreed upon.

5.   FOURTH SURPRISE …  Bob showed up on time and did a great job installing my system. The only problem encountered was that it was so windy it was impossible to be sure all areas were being adequately watered. Bob said try it for a while and if there is a problem, call and he would fix it.

6.   FIFTH SURPRISE… after a few weeks, I called and said there was one problem area. Bob(who at this time is working 10 hours a day turning on systems) said he would come out the next day. The SURPRISE is that he showed up and fixed the problem at no extra cost.

 

   I couldn’t be happier with a contractor. Every point of the process went smoothly. Not only was job done well, but I had a contractor that was a really good guy.

   There were several contractors I called, that didn’t return calls, and when you did get them to call back, they gave the impression that I was lucky  they did call me at all.

Neil's grades throughout is really A++. He was responsive, punctual, and really knows his stuff! His price was very fair! After giving me the estimate price, he noticed on his way out, some of my sprinkler nozzles needed adjustments while others needed replacement; he did not charge me for any of that but stuck to his estimated price to fix flooding in backyard. I was impressed with his expertize and he was in and out in under 35 minutes. His integrity and honesty were greatly appreciated!
I learned of Sprinkler Doctor because I happen to see his truck parked in my neighborhood. I wanted to know if he was on Angie's List; he was! Called him, he was out the next day, Saturday, gave me an estimate and was right on time Monday morning to fix the backyard problem as well as the nozzles. He's really great! Use him! You won't be sorry!

We made an appointment for him to come by and look at the work to be done and then set a date for him to complete the project. I was pleased with his work and professionalism. He did exactly as promised and within the price estimated.

Replaced some PC pipe plus sprinklers heads, added sprinklers, checking timers etc. The job took approximately half a day, but have not received bill as yet due to extras that were performed.

My sprinkler controller was having problems. So, had the Sprinkler doctor come in and replace it with an Irritrol controller with a wireless weather station. The weather station can monitor temperature, rainfall, solar and sends this information to the main Irritrol controller so it can adjust watering times as needed automatically. Las Virgenes Water District currently has a $80 rebate for this setup.
The Doctor came in on time and swapped controller and did the initial programming of the controller and weather station. I definitely would use him again!

Resonabel estimate. Then workers showed up an an agreed upon day and arrived on time and executed the job well.

They were very condescending and when they found out it was just a small repair job, they spoke down to my mother and acted like she was wasting their time. My mother asked them to leave.

Very well. He did as promised.

He completed the entire project in less than 6 hours and would continue to call him regarding any future issues.

Received an extremely high water bill. Called Sprinkler Doctor for evaluation. Discovered two broker pipes and very inefficient type and placement of existing sprinkler heads. Gave me 3 price and quality options to choose from. I upgraded the system with the intermediate option. It is performing exactly as he had predicted. I just wish he had an annual preventive maintenance program. He does not. I would definitely use him again.

It was close by and it was convenient. It was recommended by Angies list, so we thought we will pick one that was in the area. My overall experience with them was good. We really did not have anything danger by, but it was less than what our own gardener did. I think we will use them again in the future.
