Tile: Ceramic and Porcelain - Install
In my opinion he could have done a better neater job. He didn't advise me in the contract that he was going to take the newly replaced and painted baseboards or door. He told me after I signed the contract the day he started to work. He took the door off and leaned it up against a newly painted wall. He damaged the baseboards, damaged the wall while removing baseboards, damaged door, frame and jam when he tried to rehang the door. The leftover mix was dumped down my sink drain and ran down cabinet and dish washer. I expected a Professional to be upfront and respectful of my property. The possible damage to my drain pipe, clogging and environment from the chemicals. When I was able to walk on the floor and saw the damage I was shocked. I almost collapsed. I was sick for two days. I spoke to Alex with Angi and he laughed and said you'll have to fix it. Apparently you idea of a Professional andine are not the same. The damage he did shouldn't have happened.
Response from Jim's Tile
"I'm so sorry she feels like this. When I was there working on the bathroom floor . I did a beautiful job. the client ( Terry ) said so herself. She never mentioned anything negative at all. She has never contacted me to ask to fix or clean anything. I did not!! poor anything down her sink, either. I always tell my clients that we remove the molding to set the tile to the wall and either put it back or cut new molding if the client wishes. She elected to put back the old molding.she also gave me a bonus because she was so happy."

Jim, did not listen to my instructions on the tile install. I separated the marble tiles in two stacks and instructed which ones to use where. I kept checking making sure he followed my instructions and he kept telling me he has 20 years experience so I stopped checking. They white marble tiles were not in the right place and I said this l to him and his response it he is not a designer. OMG, then why keep telling me you have 20 years experience and discourage me from checking.
Response from Jim's Tile
"I did a beautiful job on Norma's bathroom floor and set the marble mosaic tile exactly the way she asked me to. The problem was that she didn't purchase enough tile for the job. Home Depot only had a small amount to pick from and not enough of the lighter tile she liked. The two piles were the lighter color and a slightly darker color. And when there wasn't enough, she had to go back and purchase more of the even darker ones. I set the tiles perfectly working with the three different colors."

Jim was a true professional. He met me at the tile store to pick the right materials. He completed the project as proposed on schedule for a fair price.

Jim was very professional and easy to speak with. My floor in a downstairs bathroom had a leak, and all the Wooden planks were destroyed. Jim installed a high quality of tile that I already had, and talked me through how the pattern would placed for a pleasing look, the color grout, etc. He and his associate did a beautiful job and I'm very pleased with the result I highly recommend his services for your home! Jim was responsive, and showed up when he said he would. The job was done quickly and efficiently, and included a great cleanup. The workmanship was wonderful. Jim coached us through the whole process with suggestions that we had not thought about. Very highly recommend Jim's Tile - we will use him again.

Jim is a top-notch professional. He installed tile flooring in three bathrooms in four days time. He is a precise craftsman, who works in an efficient and time-waving manner; very organized and cleaning up at each stage. Plus, he is very cooperative, friendly, and responsive to the needs of the person who employs him Karen K. in Woodland Hills

My wife and I were in the middle of a huge home makeover project having Travertine floor an shower tiles installed in our 2300 sq ft home when the tile guy abandoned the Job. After submitting a job on HomeAdvisor Jim from Jims tile came by and impressed us with his knowledge, professionalism and can do attitude so we hired him. Jim saved the day an wrapped up the flooring and floor to ceiling showers in record time also cleaning up some of the previous tile guys mistakes. He did such a spectacular job we brought him back to challenge him with a fireplace surround and matching front porch of Saltillo tile with an intricate Talavera tile inlays and 4 inch Talavera boarders. There were over 500 individually hand placed Talavera tiles in the 300 sq ft porch and it is truly an amazing work of art. I wish this site accepted photos so I could share. Jim has an amazing talent, is truly professional, and a pleasure to work with. I have more tile work planned in the near future and for sure Jim is the one that will be installing it. All I can say if you want it done right at a fair price then Jim is your man!

Tile: Ceramic and Porcelain - Install
Extremely disappointed with Jim Tile. We hired him to replace our carpeted flooring in the main living room and dining room with porcelain wood plank tile, as well as re-tiling the fireplace. Jim promised excellent results due to his 30 years in the business. Completely misleading, his craftsmanship was not up to par. The floor came out very uneven, tiles were not laid evenly so there is lippage between many of them and there are huge gaps and inconsistencies with the grouting. You know it's a poor job every single time you carefully look at it or walk on it with bare feet. During the hiring process, he said he did not outsource, that it was just him and his guys - but the guy he had working with him on my job was obviously new to him based on their interactions. He had left him alone to do some of the work and some of those areas inevitably were identified as problem areas including not matching the layout pattern of the other areas of the floor. I asked him to replace about fifteen or so tiles, which to his credit he did, which made it slightly more tolerable but still completely feels like an amateur job. When I asked why there was unevenness in the floor transition between my laminate flooring I was told "That is just how it is." Infuriating to be told that when you know it's not the case. When I first brought up my dissatisfaction with the progress, he said he mentioned there was going to be slight unevenness in the tiles during the bidding. NO WAY HE SAID THIS - as I never would have agreed. When re-tiling the fireplace, there were uneven tiles (again!) and he did not cut the Schulter at 45-degree angles so there were weird, unmatched grout lines where the pieces met, which I asked him to redo. Again, seeing the imperfections in the work he did, he agreed - but when he regrouted, the grout colors did not match. I didn't call him back because I was just done at this point. So frustrating!! Jim's final result and attitude felt like he considered the work was "good enough" to him - which is unacceptable to me, especially when doing large home improvement jobs. I had another contractor come in and see if there was any way to fix - and nope - not without completely tearing up and redoing, which we don't have the time or budget to do. I lost over $10K to Jim and I am painfully reminded of this every day when looking at the floors. Jim is a nice person but his skill set and abilities were overstated and the project was underdelivered.
Response from Jim's Tile
"I was surprised by your HomeAdvisor review. When I left the job you said you were very happy with the floor and the fireplace. As to the uneven tile. We previously discussed that because the tile you picked is 6? by 36? wood plank tile, compounded by the fact that it is a sharp edge instead of the rounded edge and that you wanted a tight joint, the warpage is going to be a lot more noticeable. The reason it is recommended to use a wider joint with plank-type tile is to give you ramping which helps hide the imperfections in the tile and softens the edges. I came back to see what you claimed were imperfections. You had informed me that you wished a random pattern. When you have a random pattern, it is unavoidable not to have some step patterns. When you changed from carpet to wood tile the transition between the floating wood floor and the solid tile is not as forgiving. To mitigate this movement, I put caulking between the two surfaces, but it will not eliminate the total movement of the floating wood floor. While it is true, that during the course of doing your job I did have a change in helpers. Nevertheless, I pre-screen all of my workers for their skills and abilities and never leave them on their own to work on items beyond the scope. As with the floor, I also came back and made changes to the fireplace in compliance with your request and the grout used was from the same bag as the original grouting. After all the adjustments were made you and your wife both made your satisfaction with the job well known to me. so it is with great surprise that you would write such a critical review. It is always my intent to do a very professional job."

If you are searching for a contractor that will perform quality work at a fair price then Jim Guard of Jimâ s Tile is the one for you. I originally found Jim on this site several years ago. He retiled a fireplace surround for me. He was timely to the job site, completed the work in the time frame that he promised and his attention to detail and workmanship were extraordinary. I was so pleased with his work that I kept his card (and sadly, I donâ t keep many). When I recently decided to convert 3 bathtubs to showers Jim was my first call. Once again he offered a fair price, his quote spelled out very thing out clearly and most importantly he started and finished each of the bathrooms in the exact time frame that he promised. Iâ ve completed many projects over the years and have found very few contractors that actually follow through with what they promise. Jim has earned my business and I would recommend him to anyone looking for any sort of tiling services.

Jim came out when he said he would come out. He seemed to know more than the other tilers who came to bid on the project. Not only that, but the pricing was comparable. I am happy we chose Jim for our shower tile installation. I discussed with my husband and we both agree that we'd hire Jim again for the job.

We hired Jim to install large format tile in our entry way, kitchen and dinning area. His quote was very reasonable and his work was great. He kept us informed as he progressed with the job and we incorporated some really good ideas into the job that Jim came up with. He is honest and a very hard worker. The job was done in the time frame that he originally quoted. Great job Jim! See you next time we have a tile project.
