$186
This shop requires a $50 deposit. They said that they would find out what was wrong with my TV and promised to call me to tell me how much it would cost.  If I did not like the price or simply did want them to repair it, I could collect my TV and get my $50 back. However, they did not call me. (The clerk said the line was busy.)  About two weeks later, they called and said that the set was repaired and the price would be $116.  I didn't want to pay that much but I was put on the spot and decided not to argue with them.  When I got it home and plugged in, the set did not work.  I called to find out what the problem was and they said I would have to bring it in again for them to fix it.  The set was very heavy so I asked the repairman to come to the house (about a mile away).  He said it would cost me $70 if he came and found that the problem was in how I connected the TV. (This made the repair cost $186.) The service call would be free if it was his fault.  When he came, he quickly switched the TV settings to receive the cable signal and asked for the $70.  So here's what happened: When he was working on it, he changed the settings on the TV so that with my setup at home it would not get the signal.  Then he came out and charged me $70 to change the settings back to what they were when I gave them the set.
