The biggest problem came with the installation of the solid hardwood flooring in the bedroom. Apparently, the worker who was good at tile doesn't know much about wood floor installation. The first batch of wood flooring he rejected because he said it was "no good." So I scrambled to get some new flooring from a different supplier. He installed this flooring but said to me, when almost finished, that it wasn't any good either. I immediately noticed some slight creaking sounds when walking on the floor. I hoped that over time the floor would settle and the noise would go away so didn't make an issue of it, besides it was already installed. As the summer went on, the creaking got worse and eventually there were some loud squeaks developing, by the fall it was really bad. I thought the flooring was bad as the worker had said so I went to the flooring company for answers. Eventually they sent out a certified flooring inspector to do an independent evaluation. His inspection found errors in the installation of the flooring. These are basic errors that a professional flooring installer wouldn't make.
So I realized the problem was with the installation and tried to contact Reno to work out a solution. He has not responded to my messages. Apparently, he does not warranty his work. It appears I am going to have to replace the flooring at my own expense which will mean thousands of dollars in work and material have been wasted. I am definitely not a happy customer.
"First of all the job I was hired to do was $7000.00 and I have paper work to show it, Not $15.000 like he claims ( He Lied about this ) This is the homeowner that is every contractors nightmare, He ordered a cabinet from me which I paid for then after it arrived he refused to pay for it, So I had to eat that one as there are no returns on cabinets if you just change your mind, he then ordered something completely different in design then the one he picked out from me, from home depot After that He brings me this bargain basement flooring at which time we tried to install but due to the poor quality of the product he brought me we were un able to do so,I explained the problem and he agreed it was bad in quality , So he takes it back and brings me the same quality flooring as previously, I again stated to him it was not going to work that he needed to upgrade his product but he insisted we install it, So we did, after we finished the project the floor was done and no squeaks otherwise he would have not paid us, But he was happy and paid us in full,.. well 6 month later he sends me a letter saying his house is moving and shifting with the weather and his floor is now starting to squeak, He has issues with the house moving and his sub floor flexing and moving, it probably worked the nails loose due to the poor quality construction of the product that HE bought and the fact his house was moving and shifting around. he says he contacted the flooring company and of coarse they are not going to take blame on there own product, they simply passed the buck along just like hes trying to due, I cant warrant a project due to an act of nature,or the failure of I product I didn't provide, Now he wants me to give him a new floor ,..Unbelievable and not going to happen. This is the type of guy that always looking for an angle to get over on people as people like him are never satisfied, I cant warranty this for the simple fact that it wasn't the installer that made any mistakes , Plus I didn't provide the material and I warned him ahead of time it would fail. R Phillipy builders has a 5 star rating with the public as we has been servicing people for over 20 years with NO COMPLAINTS! Reno Phillipy-Owner"
Reno's estimates were below what we received from the other four contractors.
We purchased many of the materials needed for the project ahead of time (sink, doors, flooring, etc.)
We had another granite shop do the countertop fabrication and installation, but had Reno prepare the base.
When the cabinets were received, the tear-out began, and the work was completed in about four weeks. Reno's carpenter was there every day on time, and cleaned up at the end of each day. No lags or lapses in the work.
It is important that the homeowner takes an active role in assuring that the work is performed as the homeowner expects. Reno is very accommodating in assuring the work is done according to expectations, as long as he is made aware of those expectations.
We are very pleased with the work, and highly recommend Reno for any other kitchen remodel.
