About us

Hansink construction specializes in single family homes. Quality and integrity are paramount. The following is what to expect when using our team. Our shop is located in Vista, so we are always close. We are a group of highly skilled craftsmen. We will always be on time. We will always work full days, and weekends if the job requires it. We are a non smoking group and use clean language. I am an Eagle Scout and we honor those values. I have 6 children and 3 dogs of my own, so we absolutely understand how to work around situations involving pets, kids, and working around families that choose to live in the homes as the work is being performed. We have been together for years. We work like a well oiled machine. We are professional but friendly as well. We make it our goal to exceed the expectations of our clients, and we love what we do. All jobs require a deposit. Then we follow a previously arranged payment plan. It also depends on the magnitude of the job. Our success is based on two simple things that you love our work and you enjoy our presence during the process.

As I reside in Vista some 60 miles away from the project site, I decided to hire a General contractor who came highly recommended from my area. I was hoping that would help us stay in better communication. To say my wife and I were impressed with the work ethic of Steve and his team would be an understatement. The pressure put on him for such a job for the allowed budget was non-existent. "cool as ice". Steve always had great ideas for little dilemmas found along the way. Not once did we ever feel taken advantage of when addressing unseen variables. On the contrary in fact. Steve is a meticulous very experienced builder that far exceeds a simple title of re-modeler. A real treat was the low maintenance landscape that his guys installed. We had never heard of a cycad before this job. We are currently having plans drawn up to have our Vista home remodeled and there is no doubt who we are using. He has met with the Architect a number of times already "free of charge" to provide another perspective on how to solve some roof line issues. Steve owns a local cabinet shop and is an amazing finish carpenter as well. All the cabinetry was custom built locally and shipped to the site. My wife and I give our highest nod of approval for Stephen W. Hansink Construction.
Description of Work: Steve was hired to completely remodel the kitchen and both bathroom, and perform a general remodel of an older Laguna Beach preparing it for market after the passing of my mother. He changed all the square edged drywall corners to round ones and it was quite a job. He refinished the wood windows. He refinished the deck and painted the house. He also installed a low maintenance landscape.

We hired Hansink Construction for a remodel job. My Mother was a great cook and wanted to update her kitchen. She was looking for a gourmet kitchen. Steve met with us and was very patient with my Mother as she tried to convey her ideas of what she wanted and how the kitchen should be organized. We had done the consumer routine of going to the big box stores and trying to get a design that would work with the quality we wanted. In the end they could not provide with the unique and custom design that we were looking for. Steve assured us that he could give us a custom kitchen with quality products such as hardwood maple cabinets, and not "plastic" covered particle board, at a comparable price. Steve was on the job immediately, and personally there every day. I live in San Diego county and my Mothers house is in Orange County. As a result I could not monitor the job every day. I soon found out that I did not need to, Steve was on the job every day making progress. I can remember one day I went to do a surprise drop-in and see how things were going. Steve was under the house in the crawl space, (Steve is not a small man!) and soldering pipes for the new kitchen faucet. He is amazing! My cousin who lives next to my Mother would watch the construction project and once commented," Steve can do everything!" She eventually hired him to do work for her also. During this time Mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Steve was aware of this and was considerate of the situation and was always concerned about my Mothers condition and well being. I think she adopted Steve and his crew, and considered them family. Steve made sure she always was able to cook for herself even though the kitchen was torn apart. Some might think that the construction project would have been an additional stress on her, but I think it was a distraction which gave her hope that one day she would have her dream kitchen. Steve is all about quality work. If you want less than great quality he is not your man. He is responsive to changes in the project and fair with pricing of any add-ons. He mentioned that our outside faucet was leaking and it need to be fixed. He did it with out a charge! He is that kind of a guy, grateful to work for you, and show his gratitude with his skills. The kitchen came out beautiful, with maple cabinets, granite counters, and top of the line appliances. My Mother was in love with her new kitchen and couldn't believe how perfect it was. Steve was able to give her, her dream before passing. it was the one bright spot in a difficult time for her and our family. Needless to say Steve went on to do other projects for our family including rebuilding a deck, building a new fence, and many other upgrades to the property. If you want great quality at a fair price, hire Hansink Construction.
Description of Work: I hired Steve on behalf of my Mother to do a complete kitchen remodel. The kitchen was the original that came with house when it was built in 1976. Steve and his team completely removed the old kitchen and built a new one from the ground up. All aspects of the construction were performed by Steve and his crew including, electrical, plumbing, fine carpentry, all finish work, and painting.

Steve is an outstanding builder. His work is of the highest quality I have seen. We have an early 70s home (or used to be). Four years ago we were referred to him by a contractor fried when we wanted to expand and remodel the kitchen. We ended up (with Steve's help) remodeling the kitchen, living room and hall. Whether through careless construction, or simply the simple process of aging, the ceilings in our home were noticeably uneven at the intersection of the walls with the ceiling. Yet Steve was able to put up crown molding in such a manner that it followed that uneven contour invisibly leaving a straight line along the base of the molding. Between the kitchen and dining room, he joined two different sizes and shapes of crown molding at a 90 degree intersection seamlessly. His work floored us. That's why we had him do the back half of our home this year. We were so happy with his work four years ago that we began planning to have Steve do this second phase as soon as we could rebuild our cash reserves. Steve is so pleasant to have around that the only disappointment we felt four years ago was that he would no longer have him around every day after he finished. (We'd adopt him if we could :-) We couldn't give a person a higher recommendation than Steve. He not only did what we wanted done, but he has the skill and creativeness to enhance the appearance and utility of whatever one needs done. Did we spend more than originally anticipated? Yes (embracing the enhancements he showed us that could be done). But the next question you should ask is, do we have buyer's remorse? Quite the contrary. We wouldn't have had Steve back for the second round if we hadn't been more than pleased with his ideas and the results of his work the first time. By the way, Steve's second love is plants - specifically cycads, exotic palms, etc. He runs a nursery thereof. Besides remodeling the back half of the home, we had him landscape the property. It's beautiful and will require about a quarter of the water we had been using. If you are looking for someone to get a simple job done as cheaply as possible, Steve would be overkill - you really don't need his skills. But if you are looking for someone who will be a pleasure to work with, is highly skilled, does extremely high quality work, and if you (like we) want someone who has the creative ideas you may lack to not merely get the work done, but enhance its value to you and who will leave you very happy, hire Steve!
Description of Work: Expanded and remodeled the back half of our home; landscaped our 0.92-acre property; built a 16x25-foot covered porch/gazebo; constructed a utility shed.

My contractor Steve Hansink was exceptional. He first dazzled my neighborhood by completing my room addition in less than three and a half months. He and his workers arrived early in the morning and worked until late. They were careful of my dog, and daily cleanup was always a priority. Steve and I discussed the budget before work was started and Steve followed it carefully. Any upgrades and extras were approved by me and Steve always knew where to get the best prices. Steve is meticulous and creative in problem solving. He took the plans of my architect and enhanced and improved them. As Steve and his workers were building the room, various existing house problems revealed themselves. Steve either fixed them himself, because he is knowledgeable in all the trades, or he had one of his professionals come in and take care of the problem. When Steve was building my room addition, there were so many neighbors flocking around my house to watch his work that I put up a "I love my Contractor!" sign with his telephone number on it! Even the city inspectors who came periodically to the property were impressed by his work! It was so wonderful having him around because he could fix anything; he and his workers do outstanding work. I was so pleased with Steve?s work that four of my friends used Steve and his company the following year. He did a complete top to bottom house remodel for one friend; an entire first floor-- including the kitchen and laundry room-- remodel for another; a master bedroom suite remodel for a third friend, and a high end kitchen remodel for the fourth. One of these friends was newly widowed; Steve was very careful to listen to her and to build exactly what she wanted. She was most grateful for all his extra attention and efforts in building her a spectacular "Home and Garden" kitchen. All these neighbors and friends are most grateful for my recommendation of Steve! Steve came back last summer to remodel my master bathroom. He did a beautiful job building the cabinets and installing a beautifully designed tile floor and shower. He also pushed out the bathroom wall, and put in a vanity. When I am taking a tub or a shower, I feel like I am in an expensive hotel! I am very happy with his work. I highly recommend Steve Hansink; he is extremely professional, conscientious, knowledgeable, creative and friendly.
Description of Work: Steve added about 475 square feet to my house including a large office with a full bathroom, and an enlarged entrance. He also built all the cabinets for the room and later also built cabinets for my bathroom. He also removed a wall between two small upstairs bedrooms, reconfigured the closet, and made one large room. He returned a year later to remodel my master bathroom along with another bathroom. He also owns an exotic plant farm so he provided the succulents for my front yard landscaping. There is really nothing that Steve cannot do.
