First Impressions
Quoting this job required patience and determination on our part. Until we eventually selected Allen Remodel, we had probably called over 25 contractors by phone, and had about 10 contractors visit the house to provide a quote, all over the course of about a year (Note: This was prior to joining Angie's List). My wife and I have been very choosy to say the least, but in addition to that, we are novices to remodels/re-construction, and we have 2 little kids who need attention/ make noise/ etc.-- we needed a contractor who could not only do great work at a great price, but somebody who could simultaneously help to educate, without patronizing us, and could accommodate customers with real lives with an easy-going attitude. We had a great impression of Allen Remodel starting on day he provided the quote.
Materials
The cabinet construction is full ply (no particleboard) with dovetail joints; the drawers and doors are sturdy, perfectly smooth and and doors themselves are beautiful. We got exactly what we wanted-- surprisingly we found many contractors tried to steer us away from what we wanted, seemingly preferring a construction that would make them more money(?). In addition, the recommendations we got on the granite countertop, flooring, and kitchen fixtures was spot on-- we couldn't be happier with the materials. Considering that the price was about as low as anything anybody else was offering, for great materials, we knew we were getting a great bargain.
Installation
Everything was installed right at our expected pace. Since we were living in the home with an infant, we needed to minimize downtime in the kitchen. This went exactly per plan. (Thank God!) All of the cabinets were built before beginning the demo work. I was amazed at how quickly all the cabinets were hung, granite installed, and flooring laid. Special thanks to the tile guy who finished all the corners and edges, including grout and seal, over the weekend to get us back in the kitchen within 4 weeks as promised.
Follow-up
There were 2 minor things that needed a follow-up after installation: initially a slightly clunky drawer (not perfectly smooth), and later a plumbing thing. Without any delay or hesitation, Allen Remodel readily came over to address the issues, at no charge!
All in all, I really couldn't have had a more positive experience. The quality was excellent; the pricing was as-good (if not better) than anybody else; and the customer service was even better than expected. I have no relation, and no personal incentive to recommend these guys, but they definitely earned it.
