I noticed some rattling in my air ducts and thought it was time to have them cleaned. I saw their ad in a mailer and figured I'd give it a shot. Their ad stated that they'd clean all the ducts in my house for $39.95. I figured there must be more to the story, but I couldn't imagine how they could upcharge me for the service. I called on a Friday and was able to get an appointment for the following Monday, which was great. They arrived during the 3 hour window they quoted me. I showed the technician my heating system and they told me I had two options: to "sanitize" the entire air duct for $225 or to take apart the motor of my heater for $300 and then sanitize my system for an extra $225 ($525 total). Neither one of these options were what I had originally called them for, the $40 air duct cleaning. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between sanitizing the air ducts and just cleaning the air ducts, but I didn't investigate because I was alarmed at their sales tactics. I reminded the technician that indeed there was a third option, the $40 air duct cleaning, and he grudgingly obliged. My air ducts still rattle, so perhaps I need more in-depth service, but I just didn't trust these guys to give me a fair price for the more extensive work. They did hook up what looked like a industrial vacuum to one of my air ducts and ran their machine for about 10 minutes. They also went around to most of the vent covers in my house and dusted them with a portable vacuum. I'm not sure what good it did, but it was probably worth $40.
