** BUYER BEWARE - RIPOFF ARTIST**
Get this:
We have a central vacuuming system in our house. Tony Banos of Tony's Vacuum and Sewing Repair came once before this, to repair something 2009 and he seemed fair and competent, so I kept his card. This time we had a problem with one of the vacuum head attachments. He came over, said he could get it semi-functional but slow, and suggested instead that we replace it.
He had a new one in his truck and wanted to sell it to me for $275. That seemed high to me. He began a hard-sell on why it was reasonable. Part of his pitch was that he wasn't going to charge me $60 to "make a house call." That was weird, because he advertises free estimates and never mentioned a $60 fee until that moment. I should have told him to take a hike right then.
I asked if he could do better on the price. Nope. He flatly refused and even seemed offended. I had a very bad feeling about this guy, but when someone has been honest or straightforward with me once, I give them the benefit of the doubt, so like an idiot, I wrote him a check and took the replacement part.
But I still had a bad feeling. I went inside, looked up the exact part number on line. It sells widely for $99 bucks, with free shipping. The part is called a "Turbocat 8695-BG." You can see for yourself right here:

I felt sick to my stomach at being so blatantly ripped off. I contacted Tony immediately to tell him I knew he had cheated us and overcharged by nearly 200%. When he finally responded, after running to cash my check) he said I should take a "store credit," as if there is $175 worth of stuff at his vacuum repair shop that I want to buy. In other words, I'll rip you off, mark items up 200% and if you don't like it, you can apply some of that money I took from you to buying more things from me. Unbelievable.
Enjoy our extra $175, Tony. You lost one customer, and hopefully will lose other potential customers who read this.
There ARE reputable, trustworthy vacuum businesses out there - but this is NOT one of them. Stay away from this guy!!!

I have been using Tony for probably 25 years - before he owned the business. He is honest, diligent, fair and always goes the extra mile. He has gone to someone's house to pick up a vacuum to bring it to his shop because that person was elderly and could not drive. I can't sing his praises high enough.
