Excellent! They replaced the roof 27 years ago, have maintained it through the years, and it was time for a new one before something happened. The workers were great, hard working and did a great job of cleaning up. Leslie, in the office was always helpful in answering my frequent questions.

Not good. They gave me an estimate for $7500.00 and did not even measure or check the roof. They were at my house for 5-7 minutes and gave me an estimate based on google maps view from the sky.

I chose Mike's because their office is in my town (a mecca for building services and materials) had good reviews, a good website, a knowledgeable and very professional person on the phone in their office and I learned more from talking with them than any of the other 4 roofers I got estimates from. I chose them for quality and they really came through.  I couldn't have been happier.  The man who came to my home to discuss the project and put the proposal together was the project manager throughout.  He was knowledgable and experienced and taught me a great deal that helped me to evaluate other bids and choose the right roof for my home.  Mike's was not the cheapest bid, but I was very certain that the price they quoted me included everything, and I would not be surprised with any additional costs.  They were willing to negtitiate but, in the end the Ange's list 5% coupon that was available at the time was better than the discount I was able to negotiate on my own.
There were a number of issues with Solar City that caused delays in the project but Mike's rolled with the punches and did a great deal to keep the project on track even though they ended up not making as much as they'd anticipated because of these delays.  The Owens Corning Platinum Warranty requires that certain conditions for waterproofing be met.  Mike's project manager coordinated the choice of flashing (waterproofing) that would go around each stantion intended to hold a support for the solar panels.  When Solar City delivered the wrong flashing, my project manger from Mike's is the one that insisted the correct parts be obtained and used.  I ended up with a cosmetic issue with the panels but Mike's did everything they could to ensure everything went well for me both from their end and the Solar City end.
The waranties from both Owens Corning and Mike's are great.  The Owens Corning platinum guarantee and life of the roof work guarantee offered by Mikes are both transferable if I sell the home.
The roof is very attractive and only the best materials were used.  The people who did the work were courteous and professional and for the most part came through with everything promised.  The only issue we had had to with something Mike's had warned me about - the decades worth of accumulated dust that will rain down from an open garage ceiling when work is done on the roof.  This was particularly important to us because there is a full workshop in our garage.  When tarps put up by the demolition crew were later taken down when they left, the roofer who took over forgot to put them back.  He was extremely apologetic and did the best he could to clean up.  His work on the roof was beautiful and made up for the dust.   Clean up is one of the biggest issues when choosing a roofer and other than this one incident, Mike's is very expert in minizing any damage to your home and in cleaning up after themselves.
Mike's required only a 10% deposit with the balance payable when the job was done.  The Owens Corning Energy Star roof gets you a rebate from the LADWP and Mike's was very helpful providing and pre-populating as much of the rebate forms as possible.
I would recommend Mike's to anyone and hope to be able to hire them again down the road to paint the house.

Mike's Roofing was excellent! They were quick, thorough, detailed, and very easy and accommodating to work with. The workmen were friendly and courteous. The roof quality is excellent and they cleaned up the debris very well every day. The complete job took about 5 days, and this included removal of two layers of very old roof tiles, adding a layer of plywood to meet city code, applying new roof tiles, trim, new vents, reroofing the patio, and waiting for inspectors. We really appreciated working with Tony who always quickly answered my many emails and phone calls whenever I had a question. Although Mike's Roofing quote was a bit higher than we had hoped, it was in the range of the other bidders. In the end, the job was well worth the price we paid. We would recommend Mike's Roofing to any of our friends and family.

While, my husband interviewed 7 or 8 roofers and he really wanted me to meet Tony. Yes, I met him. He doesn't sound like a greedy business guy who will push us on everything and sells us on anything he got. I wonder how his dad raised him since I really want my son to grow up like him: honest, not greedy, not play tricks and so on. Later I met his kids and know that he is father of 4 kids and also he was in the army . While, I am not sure if I will send my son to the war though.
OK, back to business. He gave us a reasonable price estimate. With his company had been there for 40 years, we trust him that he will provide good service. Yes, it is hard for a company to survive so he must got good tradition to keep it.
We didn't get any surprise during one week work time. There were no rain and our roof is mostly in good condition after they remove the old material. The workers came very early, and they worked whole day on our roof. They are very patient and not rushed to finished the job. So I think that they must did a good job that way. Tony changed two roof fans and he charged us with a reasonable price on that. He send us some addresses he worked on before the project started and we picked the right color. We really like the color we picked. So it all ends to be good.
I still find some nails after they left. It isn't a lot, just a couple. I don't think it is a big issue given my garden is kind of messy and we got a big project. Still, I wish that they run some magnite tool to collect all the nails.
Yes, do give this company a chance if you are looking for a roofer. We will refer them to all our friends.

The men come in professional outfits. It is a very small company and especially for the size they are very professional. They go the extra mile. One thing in particular that impressed me, when a beam ends it can be trimmed on all sides so it looks finished and they were skilled enough to match it perfectly. They came on time and worked really hard. They also cleaned up very nicely.

When I talked to tony later and asked for some rebate for the fact that it did not take 2 days and that only 12 tiles were used.  He said he would send me back 88.00  for the tiles that were not used.   He did send me a check, however he would not lower the price for the work that only took one day
Response from Mike's Roofing and Building
"A refund check was given for tile not used. To complete this job quicker we did send more workers than originally estimated. If the project was bid out on a hourly rate then this claim would have value, but we gave a project price not an hourly rate and all contracted work was completed. We also spot painted an area that was not in this scope of work for no extra fee. In hindsight, if the project took longer than two days would Maureen Odell have paid us more?"

Sales pitch and bid were presented professionally with good follow-up, including an additional visit by rep to explain questions. They provided us references which we visited. Work involved tearing off 2 layers, including the original wood shingles.  Their trucks navigated our steep garage driveway with no problems and only minor marks on the driveway. Their materials supplier had a challenge positioning the conveyor belt to the roof due to trees, slope and telephone poles, but after many phone calls and attempts, they got it in place. They used a high quality underlayment and we got the manufactures (Owens Corning) lifetime warranty. Our garage flat roof had a pooling problem which they solved by installing a drain at the lowest point. All roofing was complete after four days. The crew arrived promptly, was proficient, courteous, and cleaned up meticulously each day leaving the yard and surroundings dirt and nail free. Installation of the gutters took an extra (5th) day.  The working supervisor kept us informed of developments, and the project manager and the sales rep stayed in contact and were available to explain the progress.

I am thrilled with the repair.  If you didn't know a repair had been done, you wouldn't be able to tell.  The repairman was on-time and professional, and the repair exceeded my expectations.  When it is time to replace the entire roof, Mike's will get the job.

The company was good and they did a good job. We didn't like that they took off the new parts of the screens from our gutters and didn't put them back on correctly. We had to have gutter people come out and fix them. The price went a lot over what we were quoted but they didn't know what was underneath when they took the roof off so the price was fair.

I was first told that someone would be over a few hours after I called about the job. After the time that the person was scheduled to come, the receptionist called and asked if I was the one that she'd scheduled for the 2:00-3:30 appointment. Yes. She said that she'd made a mistake and needed to rebook. After the off start, everything else went very well. The gentleman inspecting the job and the gentlemen doing the job were all on time, courteous, offering suggestions, listening to what I wanted, giving me options, performing the work very well and doing a complete clean-up. Very satisfied with the work.

It was a small job, but they treated us just like someone getting a big job done. They kept us posted on when it would be done and happily rescheduled the job to a better time. All went well and it looks like they did a good job.

Mikes Roofing was the second contractor I called. The estimate was higher than the first, but Mike's came with other referrals (in addition to Angie's List). The salesman, Ramiro, came by as scheduled. He spent some time up on the roof measuring and taking pictures. We discussed the type of material and warranty. He e-mailed me the estimate about 2 days later. Once I signed the estimate and he picked it up, the crew needed about 4 days lead time. Once they started, they worked straight through, about 7 hours a day for 4 days and did a beautiful job. This included replacing some damaged plywood, at extra cost, that was found after the old material was removed. They re-worked the curbs around the skylights, to correct some old leaks. During the whole job, they were very neat and professional. Each day the job was unfinished, they covered all wood with roofing paper to protect in case of rain. No areas were left exposed overnight. Each day I looked at the area around the house and found no trash-- they cleaned continuously as they went. They also honored the Angie's List coupon on my final invoice. That saved me almost 1 percent!

The whole thing went very well. They cleaned up after removing the roof, including using magnets for nails. You would be smart to consider Mike's Roofing and asking for Uriel Huerta to make the estimate. He's nice, answers your questions in layman's language, is prompt to answer calls and to arrive and he introduces you to the job foreman (who is also nice). I'm going to use Mike's Building Corp. to repair an old wooden fence and gate in my back yard. Tony is the estimator for the building section. I'm already confident that they will do a good job, excellently priced with value for the dollar.
