Cabinet by Design AKA Archwood Manufacturing Group was hired to make and install a custom kitchen island. The owner, Charlie Subero provided the utmost experience in unprofessionalism. To start, throughout the project Charlie set up 4 appointments to meet me at my residence 3 of which he just never showed up. No call, no text, no email NO SHOW! I had to make special arrangements to miss work to accommodate his "weekday only" schedule however when he didn't show up, I missed work and I did not receive as much as an apology. Communication throughout the project was horrendous, with the exception of his emailing me invoices for payment. He asked me to email him specs for appliances on numerous occasions since he could not find them because he misplaced or deleted the email. I also texted him specs which he also couldn't find when he needed them. I provided him a wood plank sample to serve as a standard for the countertop color and finish which he lost. I also provided him with a high resolution image for the island I wanted to replicate which he ignored. He took liberties such as choosing the type of wood for the countertop which he didn't even bother asking me about. When I saw the counter top I didn't like it because it was sleek and contemporary in style, to add insult to injury he advised me it was very expensive walnut and he would need to charge me for it as well as another top should I decide to change it. I mentioned it would have been more appropriate to discuss wood type options with me prior to just picking whatever he wanted. Because he had a sample of the wood standard and images he was well aware that I wanted a distressed reclaimed look which could have been achieved with a lower priced wood species. He charged me $1800.00 for the counter top. It seemed so odd that he would proceed with making the countertop without even discussing it with me, the ah ha moment happened, he had the wood sitting around from another dissatisfied customer so he just decided to increase his profit margin by using it on my project rather than do the right thing and discuss wood options. When arriving at my residence for the final installation, he yelled at my partner telling him we cost him $250 for making his laborers wait for his arrival when it was he who was running late and one of his laborers who specifically told us Charlie directed them to wait. It was a good thing that they waited because it took all of them, including Charlie to get the island into the kitchen and installed. When all men (including Charlie) took the island out of the truck, because proper precautions were not taken, the truck started rolling down the driveway. All the guys were able to grab it but I thought it was quite symbolic of the way Charlie runs his company. Once the island was installed the cabinet doors were installed backwards. The matching doors are supposed to be installed with knobs facing each other (like french doors) they were installed with hinges facing each other. The knob pulls were installed too high (supposed to positioned the same as the existing kitchen cabinets) and uneven. When I brought the obvious errors to Charlies attention he became very defensive and needed to make me expressly aware that my dissatisfaction "complaints" would be taken into consideration for any future projects I may need. He became increasingly upset with the installation and began yelling at his workers. he tried justifying the doors being installed backwards because that was not the fault of his laborers but rather a design flaw on his part. He refused to correct the mistake saying he designed it backwards on purpose. He did not use anything to protect my new wood floors around the island when installing it therefore the workers left 2 scratches and some paint splatter on them. He did not use anything to protect my new wood floors around the island when installing it therefore the workers left 2 scratches and some paint splatter on them. From inception to completion this job was nothing short of a nightmare. My advice, don?t walk, run from Charlie Subero and any company he may be affiliated with.
