Zebrack, Dr. Allen S

Went to Dr. Zebrack since he was one of my "dental HMO" choices. Chose him because he supposedly did his own cleanings, worked on one person at a time, and gave personal, good service. The waiting room and front desk were empty when we arrived even though it was mid-morning. The Doctor and his assistant were in one of the bays in back (out of sight, but not entirely out of hearing) working on a woman's filling, crown, or some such problem. After a few minutes, the assistant (a pleasant apparently new hire) appeared and took the paperwork I had printed out and filled in at home. She disappeared in the back. After a few minutes, an elderly woman came in the front door and asked us who we were. She did not identify herself, but dropped off some things and busied herself around the office. A few minutes later she asked me to come back to one of the rooms, asked me why I was there, and began putting together a cleaning kit. No x-rays even though I told her that was part of what I wanted (and it was part of a professional checkup in any event). She was the hygienist, and did a middling cleaning and polishing. She was in her 80's (not an exaggeration or guess, she said she was that old several times), and forgetfully asked a number of questions repeatedly. She also asked for advice on several matters, which was extremely unprofessional. After she finished, a few minutes elapsed then the Doctor hurried in. They consulted with each other in hushed voices in a corner over my new dental folder for a short time, and then he glanced in my mouth for a couple of seconds. The Doctor muttered "You grind your teeth [I don't], but that's just the way it is." Not another word, and he was gone. The one positive was no attempted upsell. Otherwise, a mediocre cleaning, unprofessional conduct, no x-rays, a farce of an exam, no interest, and no communication.

Dr. Zebrack is very nice.  I enjoyed chatting with him.  (when I could speak...  ) His office assistant is quite friendly as well.  He does pretty good work and makes you feel very comfortable.  My issues are these.  Unfortunately, the doctor simply doesn't do certain procedure, like crown repair.  Also, The lab the doctor uses is awful.  I had a crown made twice and it still didn't fit.  And lastly, His dental hygienist gave me probably the worst cleaning I have ever had.   It was approx 10 minutes long and she barely did anything.  I was shocked.
Anyway, I haven't been there in many months.  If the doctor has changed labs and gotten a new Hygienist,  he would be a good option.

He is very good, and he has a very calming attitude. You feel very relaxed with him, he is gentle and has a good sense of humor. The work the good, I have anxiety about going to the dentist and he puts me at ease.

They always get me in quickly. He's got a sarcastic sense of humor which is a little dry. It works for me but I'm not sure about other people. The office staff is very friendly and the office environment is very clean. They just redid the office and upgraded it. It's very casual and not thing fancy. There is no TV and they give kind of basic services. He seems very competent.
