Technician did great job. Very punctual and efficient work. Felt price was originally excessive, but negotiated a reasonable settlement afterwards by eliminating an extended warranty and 3 service visits. Appreciated the fact that management worked with me on a compromise with price!

It went very well. I called AWH at about noon on Saturday, 2/6/21. I was told to expect someone between 3:00-5:00 p.m. that same day. Mike Centeno arrived at 4:15 p.m. and had the heater and all other necessary equipment in his truck. He finished the work in two hours, and explained how to properly bleed the water lines of trapped air. The price was $1,777 for the water heater and 6-month warranty, plus $110 for the permit.

Best experience I have ever had for a service related problem. Jonnie (our technician) arrived within ten minutes of our service call and assured me the job would be done right the first time. He replaced our water heater and was professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. And the best part, he didn’t mind explaining everything he was doing as he was doing it. You should be proud to have an employee like him. Jonnie, thanks again for the tips on how to make the perfect steak. Take care! Sincerely, Sig L

Saturday night water heater failure! (Of course). Called Affordable because of a sticker/phone # on the old WH. Answered the call right away and had a plumber to my house within the hour. Mike explained the code changes to the install since the old one was put in, how long the job would take, and quoted the price. He did a very neat and professional job removing the old WH and putting in the new one with the code upgrades, and finished within 15 minutes of his quoted time. The WH installed was a significant upgrade to the old one as well.

They overcharge, don't respond to phone calls and emails, refuse to fully itemize bill, in short Do Not Hire this company!! For instance they charged $3,258 for replacing a 50 gallon water heater while reusing all of the previous infrastructure.

The people that work at "Affordable Water Heaters" ARE CROOKS!!! that prey upon the elderly.. My 85 year old father-in-law on Social Security called to say his water heater is leaking- they came out, said it needed to be replaced (8yrs old) that they happened to have one in their truck, and it would ONLY be $2675.00 but they would get a $50.00 senior citizen discount. Well they replaced it in under 2 hours; they didn't charge sales tax; didn't give an itemized bill, didn't detail ANY of the cost break down. When I called to suggest that $2625 for a water heater was well over $1000 more than the job was worth they laughed. When I suggested they were taking advantage of someone 85 years old and unable to actually pay $2,625- they said he signed a contract. When I suggested I would write this up on Yelp, they said "we don't bother to police Yelp comments." The water heater they installed is list priced at $1100, is available for $650, and less than 2 hours of labor shouldn't be $750/hour. So if you like CROOKS, want to be taken advantage of and are Stupid or too old to figure out you are being Robbed- Call "Affordable Water Heaters"

These people charged an exorbitant amount for a water heater. My 91 year old mother called them, trusting them to charge a fair market rate, and to say they gouged her on the price would be an understatement. Everyone, from contractors to city inspectors has told us, she should not have been charged more than $1000. THEY CHARGED HER $3225. The BBB, I now see, has over 50 complaints against this company and apparently, from BBBs website, all of these complaints have gone unresolved. Yelp reviews, I now see, has numerous stories similar to this, accusing this disreputable company of price-gouging and unfair business practices. This is a scam company. They send you notices that look like the city printed them to be placed on your water heater. Then when you have a small leak (like my mother's was. It wasn't an emergency.) you call them, thinking they're reputable, when they are anything but. Again, my mother is 91 and a widow. She is in very good mental and physical health. She was not expecting from this company any sympathy or even a 'senior discount' but simply expected to pay a reasonable market value for goods and services rendered. As stringent a state as California is for adhering to codes and regulations, I find it hard to believe a company that operates in this capacity has not been closed down. This issue continues to go unresolved. I have called this company numerous times and have yet to receive a returned phone call. We have filed complaints against this company with both BBB and California State Contractors Board.

I should have read the reviews before I had this company come out. They did the same thing to us that the reviews are reporting. My water heater was still under warranty. The charge for the service was $597. I asked for a breakdown of the service. The service person said the cost was mostly due to the price of the part that turned out to be under warranty which they charged me over $400 for. I contacted the warranty company when they reimbursed my only $90 for the part in question. I questioned them as to why there was such a low reimbursement on a covered part. They said we were grossly overcharged for the part and that I should contact the company to report the overcharge and demand reimbursement. I have called this company so many time with no answer and no reply that I have given up trying to contact them. Angie's List should red flag this company so no one else gets ripped off!

This turned out to be one of those companies that is eager to come and then gives sky high estimates. The pilot light was malfunctioning and needed replacement of the thermocouple (a $30 part). The guy came and made an estimate for $830 for the work. Claimed all sorts of stuff about the installation being defective -- despite that with recent construction the heater was checked out by a licensed plumber as well as the city building inspector. We had to pay the $90 for the inspection and he left. We will start over looking for a more honest company for the work.

I originally gave this company an F. I am updating my review to C. They already refunded me $75 of the $299 that they charged me for the part under warranty. The owner has agreed to refund the additional $224. While I have not seen the amount post to my checking account yet. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and trust that it will post in the next day or two.
Not very well. I called the company that installed the Water Heater (Affordable Water Heaters) and told them that I had no hot water. They advised me over the phone that they would charge $99 just to come out to look at the unit. When the technician got here, he said he knew what the problem was and could fix it. He called his office and told me that this repair was going to cost $538. That seemed outrageous to me. I could not find my original paperwork but I believe that when they installed it, the cost was roughly $1000. I asked what was wrong and he said the unit required a new Pilot Assembly Kit. I pointed out that they had not installed this all that long ago. He checked some numbers on the unit and confirmed that it was still under the 6 year warranty. He informed me that I would be covered for parts (but not the labor) associated with the repair. He explained that the company would need to fill out some paperwork for the manufacturer. They would then be reimbursed for parts and that once this occurred, I would be reimbursed by them. It took the tech exactly 1 hour to do the repairs. Before he left, I told him that I wanted an itemized breakdown of what the $538 cost consisted of. I also told him I wanted to see the broken part or parts that he replaced. He itemized my receipt and wrote down $99 for the trip charge, $139 for "T&P Relief Valve" (I have no idea what this is since there was no part associated with this, I'm going to assume it is a labor charge) and $299 for the Pilot Assembly Kit. He then showed me the part that he replaced, which was the broken Pilot Assembly Kit. That was when I knew that I was being taken to the cleaners by a very disreputable company. The Pilot Assembly Kit is a tiny part and if you go online, you will discover that Home Depot sells these things for $26 RETAIL. I paid him by debit card--they did not want me to write a check--and immediately called their Accounting Office. After numerous calls back and forth, I got basically no satisfaction but was simply told that I did not understand the charges. They finally sent me a letter which simply confirms the detailed breakdown on the invoice. Their letter makes no mention of any refund process for parts associated with warranty work which is information that I had specifically asked for.
On July 8th their office told me that they were authorized to give me a $75 credit. I demanded to speak to a principle of the company and was told that "Mitch" was this person and that he would not be available until 7/19. I have seen no refund check and no one has contacted me.
I noted prior to writing this review that there are 2 addresses shown for Affordable Water Heaters on Angie's List. PLEASE make sure that your members understand that this is the same horrible company. They have many locations and there is a wealth of information about them on the Internet, (Yelp, etc.). I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will do whatever I need to do to ensure that I am reimbursed for the $299 that they charged me for parts. These people need to be stopped.

The contractor did a great job after we reached agreement on price that was not easy though as the price was first quoted as $1800. I said no and they suddenly found a manager’s offer for $979.00, questionable sales methods.
