TL;DR Do not recommend Matt Kazen, stay away! Long version - our designer hired him to install a split heat/cool system for our ADU. She had used him before and thought highly of his work. First red flag - he asked for $5000 up front before he would show up to install it. After installation, the unit would not turn on. He sent other employees to look at it but then we heard crickets. Finally after some sleuthing by our designer it turns out that Matt told the electrician to install a 220V circuit for the unit initially as he intended to get a 220V system. But apparently after looking at our space, he decided a 110V system would be sufficient but forgot the wiring was incompatible. Long story short, the system was fried. We were told it will take 6 months for a new circuit board. When we said this was unacceptable especially since we already paid for everything, he agreed to buy a new system for us but only if the electrician split the pricing of the unit with him. The electrician refused (because he only did what he was told). Since then, Matt has basically ignored all our phone calls as well as phone calls and texts from our designer (who previously had been his primary point of contact. Very unprofessional. We are now out of $5000 and have been waiting 2 months for this to be resolved. Next steps, I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and looking into legal action.

Man, when your AC goes out when summer starts you start to panic, HARD. Matt answered the call FAST. He had someone out to us within a day, the whole process to replace a part took about 1 hour and the process was clean, prompt, and polite. You always worry about service guys charging an arm and leg and taking advantage, I can honestly say not only did I feel comfortable having them in my home, but I felt Taken care of. They recommended a maintenance and let us know a realistic time frame for when it should be done to keep things running smooth. He checked everything that could go wrong and we have a warranty for the replaced part! I will absolutely be using them again, but hopefully not for any more emergencies!!!!

This appointment went so much better than I ever expected. The problem was much simpler than I had been lead to believe and given an expensive quote from another company - HUGE $$$$$ difference. Matt's Godly mannerism and spirit preceded him, just from the phone message he left me. His skills and professionalism and honesty serviced the needed repair, making this customer a blessed one; in such a needed time. Thank you Matt and Company, may God continue to be a blessing to you and your business!!!!

Matt and his crew are very professional. I sent in a request in the evening and Matt called back right away. Had someone out to the house the next day. Offered to bring me a heater until the problem was repaired. Above and beyond good service.

Absolutely great!
My general contractor had suggested them to replace my (then 18-year-old) furnace and central a/c at the time I purchased my 2000 sq. ft. home 3 years ago. Since both were still functional, I decided to wait until something died, which the furnace did in March.
Matt Kazen came out and determined that the "cause of death" was a $600.00+ part. Replacing the furnace with a new HE unit, eligible for a significant PG&E rebate, was a no-brainer. HOWEVER, he pointed out, my new furnace would then be sitting on top of - literally - part of my 21-year-old central air unit (both are stacked in an interior closet - can you say "design flaw"?) and would have to be uninstalled/reinstalled when the a/c gave up the ghost. I gulped and contemplated the cost of replacing both, figuring I'd better cultivate a taste for kibble, so you know I was thrilled when the estimate was thousands less than I anticipated.
The whole thing was done in two days, which included wrestling the old unit out of the closet (some heavy breathing, but not a curse word heard - impressive in itself) and installing better equipment for less money. Everyone involved was prompt, pleasant, helpful and professional - and cleaned up after themselves! The new unit and sealed ducts are so efficient, I had to lower my thermostat 3 degrees to keep from getting too warm. Oh, and they threw in (and installed) a carbon monoxide detector.
As I said - can't recommend them highly enough... YAY, KAZEN!

Robbie & Matt Kazen have been here three times because my wall heater had stopped working. The first time they found a short under the house in the wiring and repaired it, charging me only $100 for the work. They were prompt, friendly, professional and willing to explain exactly what they were doing and looking for and why. It went out again a couple of months later and they came back. While they were here, it instantly turned on - no problem at all (despite not having worked during the previous week when I attempted to turn it on.) The didn't charge me for the second visit because they couldn't find out what was wrong with it while it was apparently working perfectly. It went out again towards the end of last Winter, and I didn't deal with it until this Winter, when it still wouldn't start up. They again, a year later, responded quickly to my call and scheduled an appointment within a couple of days. They found another short in the wiring and replaced the thermostat and recommended that I rewire the whole thing because the wiring is so brittle and old. Next time it goes out, I will definitely be calling Kazen to do the whole rewiring job - they were great to work with and their quote for the rewiring seemed incredibly reasonable.

I don't want to sound sappy, but I really liked these guys. The father, Robbie has been installing furnaces since the '70s at least, and his two sons and other workers seemed very competent also. There was a lot of communication going on, like calling through floors to make sure the other person cut through in exactly the right place, or making sure drainage pipes had enough downward slope to them, and everyone obviously listened to and respected each other. I'm not a construction expert, but the no-nonsense way they worked just seemed ideal to me. Another company that's highly rated on Angie's List wanted to charge me over $13,000 for a less efficient furnace and filter! I'm very glad I went with the Kazens, the new system works great. They're from Vacaville, but they do jobs from Sacramento to San Jose. I'd really recommend at least calling them for an estimate before going with someone else.

The whole job was done in 2.5 days. They shown up in the morning and work both days till 5/6 pm. All of my small requests were completed immediately on a spot. I was impressed with Kazen's professional attitude. On a top of that, Matt was able to find gas leak in the crawling space while working on ducts. He fixed it the next morning after a visit to the hardware store to get the necessary parts. I was happy to put that "gas leak" mystery behind: I called the plumbing company twice within last couple of years and they were unable to find the leak. Of course they didn't bother going to the crawling space. I'm planning to do bathroom remodeling and I wish I could find somebody like Matt to do the job.

Kazen is literally a father and son company. We received four estimates and they were by far the lowest. More importantly, they were willing to start work right away, which was important as we had no heat. They were clean and polite but unfortunately the furnace stopped working a few days later. They came back almost immediately after I called them and narrowed down the problem to a faulty part. They also showed me how to reset the furnace if it happens again. That was very useful because it stopped again the next day. Matt and his father came out a total of three times, including on Thanksgiving Day, to try different things and spend hours on the phone with the manufacturer. Everything seems to be working fine now and I really appreciate all the effort.
