About two hours, a man named Cal came to my house. Cal is a young man in his thirties. He was polite and down-to-earth guy. He appeared professional wearing the company uniform and was courteous. He inspected the water heater. He said the plastic valve has cracked and needed to be replaced. Then he gave me two options. Option one was to replace the value but because of the age of the old water heater, he will not guarantee that the heater will not break down again. Option 2 was to replace the water heater with another tankless water heater but it will be expensive. He quoted me $3,800.00. I was shocked at the price but I expected a new one to be expensive. I took the plunge and agreed to install a new one. Cal said he will begin the work the next day with his apprentice.
They started off their work by removing the old heater. It was attached to the studs on the wall but the new water heater couldn't be reattached to the old mounts so they needed to add new pieces of wood to securely attached the new heater.
Then they worked on the pipes. They removed the old pipes and installed the new ones with five valves. The new pipe configuration is more complicated than the previous. I asked Cal about that and he said this was the proper way to configure the pipes.
Then they installed the new water heater. The new heater is smaller than the original so it looks odd.
Then they installed the gas line. The original gas line for the house was too small for the new water heater so they needed to make a new line for the house. They went outside my house and connected a series of large gas pipes from the main gas line around my house into the room where my heater was at. They used a portable lath to make the proper connections.
They installed a new vent for heater. They went on top of the roof and installed a new vent.
After making a few adjustments to the heater, it was all finished. Hot water was flowing through my pipes again and I was a happy customer. But, the next day, I noticed that Cal didn't tighten one of the pipe fittings tight enough because water was dripping. I called the company up and he immediately came back to fix their error. He apologized for his mistake.
This was a very expensive job but it was well worth the price. Tankless water heaters are expensive compared to traditional water heaters but it's durability and savings in natural gas makes it a logical choice for me. Cal and his apprentice worked the entire day without taking a lunch break. They worked very hard to make sure I was satisfied paying their company $3,800.00 and I am satisfied.
Will I hire them again? Yes. When I was doing business with this company, I was greeted by a honest man that has done a honest day at work. He and his apprentice worked hard and they expected an honest wage as well. They didn't take any shortcuts and I was more than happy to pay them for their hard work. Even though $3,800.00 was a lot of money for me, I felt it was well worth it.
I later discovered that the leak was continuing and called them back. The plumber said he believed the leak was coming from the faucet. He took it apart and I could see where water and minerals had been accumulating under the faucet cover. I went to Home Depot and bought a new faucet for about $75. He waited for me to return and installed the faucet and new supply lines.
Advanced Plumbing did not charge me for the labor to replace the faucet. They said, and I believe this is true, that I had a couple of different leaks. They were kind enough to not charge me for the labor for the second visit. They admitted that the first plumber should have checked for any additional leaks when he replaced the garbage disposer. But in fairness, he was there on an emergency call and took extra time to look at the leak in the kitchen. He probably was well behind schedule at that point and I can see how that could have happened. I was very happy with the experience of the plumbers.
