This DJ performed at a Valentine's Day dance at I bar where I work. The two other bartenders and myself did last call at 11:40 pm (our bar closes at midnight) We asked him to announce last call, which he did at 11:45pm but continued to play music. Because he was paid until midnight we allowed him to continue and carried on with closing the building; which consists of: restocking, counting registers, locking all the doors etc. It is a rather large multifunctional building and takes some time to close up. When midnight rolled around we told him that the song currently playing would have to be the last and he agreed. However, he continued to play until 12:20am. When asked again to stop the music, he laughed and I noticed how intoxicated he was. I found this odd seeing as I did not remember serving him or his manager at the bar all night. I let the thought go and continued with my work. Finally, it was 12:45am. Clean up was just about done and the night was winding down. The croud was gone and most of the lights off. Needless to say the other bartenders and I were shocked to walk into the ballroom and find that the DJ had not touched a single peice of equipment or begun to dismantle his hardware in any way shape or form. He was eating tacos with his manager in the corner of the stage. We asked him to please pack up and he told us to "chill" in a slurred drunk motion. By now it was 1:00 am and we were exhausted and ready to go home to our spouses on Valentines Day. These two gentlemen continued to joke around, moving one thing here and there as slow as possible. Finally, we'd had enough and began taking his equipment apart and hauling it outside with little help or appreciation, and this stuff was not light. This is when we found the cooler under his table and it occured to me how this guy is so intoxicated without having been to the bar. Low and behold inside this cooler was a giant bottle of Crown Royal and five empty cans of Canada dry. Sitting next to the cooler was a large to-go coffee thermus full of what was mostly crown and ice cubes. He was well aware that he was not allowed personal alcohol in the facility but that didn't stop him. We locked the cooler in our safe, as policy with outside alcohol, and didnt mention it because we figured they'd both had enough anyway. After we moved what felt like 1000 lbs. Worth of DJ equipment, we finally get him, his manager and his stuff outside. We clocked out, set the alarm and walked out the front door at 1:45am. to this DJ asking about his cooler in some drunk mummble. We were so mad at this point that we told him we locked it away, he could come back tomorrow to get it and we couldn't go back inside because of the alarm. He stuttered what I could only imagine was "dumb b******" and stood there in a drunken stuper for a few seconds. We got in our cars and got settled and noticed that these two guys were stumbling around trying to get back into the building not two minutes after we told them the alarm was set and he was out of luck. I will never hire this DJ. His unprofessionalism and complete lack of respect completely over shadows how great the other guests were. He kept us unnecessarily for almost two hours because he was too drunk to dismantle his epuipment, costing the bar money and wasting our time. Not only did he randomly cut songs halfway for no reason as the night went by (because he was inebriated) but he disrespected the establishment and its employees by not following the rules and getting so drunk, a 25 year old chick, and a 60 year old 100 lb woman had to do finish his job for him just so we could go home to our husbands on what was left of Valentine's Day.
