JOHN K.
Dec 2014
Auto Service
I tried to replace my starter, and it was too difficult and crowded in the engine compartment. So, I took the part to Mr. Rivera at this small shop, and he installed it for a small charge. Several months prior, I also had a high-pressure steering hose replaced for $160.
So far, so good. He doesn't seem to push additional repairs. He just gives you a quote, fixes it, and calls you when it's done. It's all very informal and "handshake".
The only negative is that he's not going to tell you about other problems. At least he doesn't tell me - I drive a 19 year old Corolla, so he probably assumes I know what's wrong and will get it fixed as needed. I know there are specific oil leaks, and I think my CV boot is damaged, but not sure. But he's not pointing them out. On the flipside, anyone driving a 20-year old car needs to check fluids and parts weekly. It's just part of the ritual of owning an old bucket.
There's also a little bit of a language barrier.
Despite this, he's my current go-to mechanic.
