Del Monte Auto Repair

It went well. Days later I noticed a slight oil leak. This was NOT the fault of DMAR. The factory plug washer was worn out. I took the car in, they promptly diagnosed the problem and replaced the washer with a new quality washer AND noted and pointed out another leak in the steering armature. We'll schedule service soon.

If you decide to use Del Monte Auto Repair, 2232 Del Monte Ave, Monterey, CA 93940, you have to know a few caveats.
1. It's hard to find. The shop is buried behind a non-descript beige/brown office and that beige office has no windows and juts right out to the sidewalk on Del Monte Ave. The entrance driveway is an immediate hard right turn, after the building and that entrance looks more like a bus stop than a drive way entrance... and that's because it is also plays the role of a formal bus stop.
So, if you miss the drive way, don't make a u-turn and go around. I strongly recommend going almost up to the freeway and hanging a right turn onto the last street before you go under the overpass. It is a very short street and at the end of the road is what appears to be a cul-de-sac, except that there is also a freeway entrance onto Highway 1 right there at the end. Get on the freeway and immediately get off at the next exit. Hang a right turn at the end of the off ramp and go back down to Del Monte. Hang a right onto Del Monte and go slower this time. Look for that beige building and be ready to make that right turn. I'm kind of a hard-head. Let's just say that the third time was a charm.
2. It's not a fancy looking place. It's an honest-to-God working auto shop. There's not a Customer Waiting Area. There's no fancy-shmancy cappuccino coffee machine. There's no salt-water aquarium. The bathroom's located up in the front, in that beige building and frankly, the bathrooms are very dated. So it's best that you get done any other business other than auto repair, before you get there. It's best that the only thing needed is the car being fixed.
3. Appointments. Call ahead and schedule your drop off if possible. Chuck will tell you if he or his team can see you today, or not. If you don't call and he's really busy, don't get your britches all up in bind if he says that he's all booked and asks you to bring it back tomorrow. Like I said, a phone call works best.
What you do get is experienced, friendly service at a wallet friendly price. If I want a nice bathroom, I stop by McDonalds or one of several other stores before I get there. My wallet really likes the savings I get once the bill arrives.
