David Simms is an arborist and knows what he is about. He was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and an all around good guy. His pricing was competitive and his crew was professional, and hardworking. They also left the site cleaner than it was before the work was done. I will definitely call on David again for tree work. I highly recommend him.

He is an arborist. He is excellent and his price is very fair. He's not the cheapest but he's really good. We've used him before. Everything was excellent with him. David Sims is his name. Yes, I would use his service again, I have used him before.

He arrived on schedule with a crew that seemed very professional. I did not get bids from anyone else because a neighbor had recently used them and was very happy.

Update February 2016:

Mr Sims and his crew came back out and this time the tree looks like it was sculpted by an artist. Mr. Sims at first said he'd discount the work by $50, but then discounted it by $100.  I have absolutely no complaints this time, and would recommend him highly. I can appreciate his wanting to make things right and he did so beyond my expectations. A+ for both him and his crew.

November 2015-

I want to like the work they did, I really do. The entire crew was polite and professional and showed up when they said they would. The contract they wrote called for 14 or 15 large diameter cuts on the pine tree, and I'm sure they did at least that much if not more. I know they took away more material than they had planned for. But every time I look at that pine, I see how uneven and lopsided it appears, how there are two large areas that were not thinned, and  how I will have to call another crew sooner rather than later to finish the job.

One thing I do appreciate is that they use a truck with a lift basket instead of climbing the tree with spikes. But I have to believe that is also the source of the issue. The untouched areas are all what was out of their reach from the basket. Of course, they could have moved the truck to reach those areas. But they didn't.

My guess is that they under valued / underbid the job, did as much as they felt they could given the money they asked for, and left rather than incur a loss by staying and working longer on it. The question is what is the standard of quality - do you do enough to satisfy the contract, or do you do the job right regardless of what you bid for? The answer for me at least is that having hired a tree trimmer to do a job, I will have to hire another one to complete it. And as much as I want to like them, I don't like that I have to now seek another trimmer to finish the job.

UPDATE 5/15/15

Mr Sims contacted me, said he had just recently had time to read his reviews and was concerned that I was unhappy and wanted to make things right. I appreciate that effort, Unfortunately, now is not the season to cut the tree. I will contact Mr Sims in November and we will see what happens then. But again, the only error I think he made was to underestimate the actual amount of work needed (and from that, to price accordingly).

I had a little trouble connecting with Tree Preservation at first... David was on vacation... but he came out in July or August and gave me a bid, charging less because of the difficulty connecting. Later we scheduled the work for the first week in December. We confirmed again as the time drew near... and his crew came out as expected and did the work. It was a good crew... I was happy with the way they pruned trees and it was easy to talk to the crew leader (spoke good English and was a good communicator). David came out at the beginning and end of the job and we went over details. It's clear the company knows trees and also knows the aesthetics of good pruning. I will be happy to have them return in future years.

The team was clean, quick, professional, and very respectful of my garden, which they worked in and around without damaging at all.  David and I planned job beforehand, and his team used a cherry picker to remove cuttings directly to street area, so that nothing fell to crush the garden.  We plan to call them soon to work on our very tall grevallias.

I really liked David; he seems very honest and like he really cared about trees. I wanted him to prune another orange tree and, rather than taking my money, he said he didn't like to prune trees in flower and that he could do it in the fall if I wanted. I appreciated his care for my trees. His estimations were a little spotty: $180 to trim an entire palm and then $270 to remove 20 fronds from another, which didn't make a whole lot of sense. But he was willing to work with us when I told him another estimate I had received. The best was that he left us tons of free mulch from a job he had done the previous day. I have used that mulch all over my garden and yard and everything is growing great with it. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend Tree Preservation and will definitely use them in the future.

They arrived on time, did the job exactly, & cleaned up thoroughly and removed every bit of debris. The foreman was friendly and knowledgable and gaves us some helpful hints along the way. The price seemed fair. Happy

They did an absolutely fantastic job. They were more expensive, but their work was far superior than anyone else we have used. David Sims is a true arborist. They cleaned up beautifully and protected our yard and garden. They initially thought this would be a two day job, but they were able to get this done in only one day.

They really understood the nature of trees and how they grow. They were very concerned about how they would trim this big tree. I think this guy must have had some sort of huge background in botany because he took a lot of care to make sure that I understood which branches could be kept and which could not be kept that would be detrimental for this tree. He was very good and very professional.
