Oil change did not go well. The plug was put in only finger tight. I went home and parked for a few hours. When I left for dinner I noticed a pool of fresh oil under my car. This is the second time something like this has happened to me there. I'm sorry to give a bad review. John, the owner, is a nice man. But I don't trust them anymore and I feel like they try to talk me into buying services I don't need.

My 2005 Outback XT lost engine compression as I got on the freeway near truckee. I towed it to auto dr for a diagnostic. Greg told me over the phone that and quot; I would need a new small block engine, but that my turbo was good to go.and quot; quoted me $6500 for the fix. He offered a suggestion that maybe my oil was low or that it had not been changed in a while. Funny thing is, they were the ones who last changed my oil and I was still only on 2500 miles on the oil. I towed my car from the shop to my house in Reno. I found a mobile mechanic to come to my house and we took another look at it. Upon further research i found tons of information on the same issue. Everyone else had the same thing told to them. It turns out the turbos burn out due to oil starvation due to a clogged banjo bolt in the oil supply line to the turbo. I replaced the turbo with a bnr turbo and an after market oil supply line from infamous tuning. All told after parts and labor I spent $1800, a far cry from $6500 that Greg from Auto Dr quoted me.

Now I can understand a missed diagnosis here and there. The fact is the guys over there only put on the computer and the codes told them that the engine was bad. What baffles me is that they took my money and did 5 min of real work. Either 1, they were too lazy to pull off the turbo or do some simple research online to find a few different scenarios about what was going on with my car, or 2 the mechanics at Auto Dr are too incompetent to know what the issue would be with my car. Either way DO NOT EVER take your vehicle there to have any work done. Back in the day they used to do honest work when they were at their old shop. Now that they are moved to their new location it seems like they need to keep the cars coming in and charge them for things that are not wrong in order to pay for the new location.

This is not how you do business. Good thing there is this site that allows me to share my story.

Went here because I received a groupon oil change and was pleasantly surprised in all aspects. Very friendly/ knowledgeable staff. I was only charged for the oil change and didn't feel pressured to add unneeded services. The only complaint I have is the wait time but they were clearly busy and the business seems very popular. Would return.

We brought our truck to Auto and Tire Doctor after it failed its smog inspection. It hadn't had a tune-up in a while, so we started with that. They did the required service, on time and per quote. (And, fortunately, the truck passed its smog inspection afterwards!)

Limped into The Auto and Tire Doctor, Truckee CA, on a Saturday at 11:00 AM with grinding sounds from front of our 2002 BMW X5 (60,000 miles). Andrew, an Audi specialist, but clearly with BMW knowledge, suspected a failed differential and quickly confirmed same from burnt differential fluid containing lots of metal particles. On Monday he found a rebuilt differential (in Texas) but the savings were not sufficient so I went with a new unit (from LA). He said it would be ready on Friday and it was. During the week he kept me informed by phone at my home (Los Altos). The cost was pretty much in line with what my local mechanic estimated, a bit less expensive due to the lower labor rate in Truckee. John the owner called a week later to make sure all was well - nice touch. A differential should not fail at 60,000 miles but otherwise a good experience. Highly recommended

Saturday morning on way to ski at Northstar our 2002 BMW X5 started making front grinding noises while not under load. Asked around about a mechanic and upon recommendation limped into Auto and Tire Doctor about 11:00 AM. The shop appears professional and well equipped - nice waiting area. Andrew, an Audi specialist, but with clear BMW experience, quickly looked at our car and accurately guessed it was the differential. He then confirmed it by inspecting the fluid - burnt and containing lots of metal particles. I confirmed the apparent diagnosis with my mechanic at home, Los Altos. On Monday, Andrew found a reconditioned part, but the price wasn't so much better than a new part so I elected a new one. The part had to come from LA so he estimated that the car would not be available until Friday which it was. Throughout the week he kept us informed about progress. The hours charged were right in line with what my home mechanic estimated and the labor rate was a bit less expensive than at home. The experience of loosing a differential with only 60,000 miles was lousy, but Andrew and the Auto and Tire Doctor made the best of it. About a week later, John the owner called to make sure all was well - nice touch. Highly recommended.
