We had a restaurant construction project and the general contractor we hired abandoned the project. To correct the problem we retained Rick Amos of Amos Construction to complete the job. We agreed to pay him $1500 a week if he would complete the project in one month; he said no problem and could probably finish it sooner. After his first two weeks of working on the project we got his first bill which he changed the amount to hourly (paying himself 50% more than what we agreed upon). He then threatened if we did not want to pay him he would remove his license off of the city permit and would have the project shut down completely. Understanding that we only had two more weeks to complete the project we were forced to give in to his demands. This decision was a costly mistake; Rick Amos turned out to be so incompetent as a contractor that he upset city, fire and county inspectors and delayed the project, 5 months later he was still not done. I have photos of the shoddy and hillbilly like work that he did. The situation got worse when Amos claimed to be a regular employee of our company and filed a bogus claim with the labor board. We never knew him before this project and only hired him as an independent contractor to finish the job he completely lied about being an employee. Even after being paid for the crappy work he provided, Amos did not in turn pay his laborers who also got upset and blamed us. Amos consistently called our office to try and get more money; we had to call the Sheriffs to get him to stop harassing us. We had to retain another contractor to clean up the mess Amos left at the project. Amos claims to have been in construction for over thirty five years, his workmanship reflects he should have never been in the business in the first place. To top it all off he took over a $1000 worth of our company tools and material and never returned them. The public needs to be warned, Amos construction is a rip off, don’t trust this guy. I can’t believe he claims to be from Missouri, what a joke.
