When I called I asked if they were certified Whirlpool technicians. They said they were. I later called Whirlpool and they said they never heard of them. I was uneasy about the price as it seemed pretty high, also when I was given the receipt and the business card it had another name on it, which I thought was odd. When I called the company about it, they said they did that to help with income taxes . What! Anyway, I opted not to go with them. After going online to a repair sight, and buying the needed part myself, I decided to fix it myself. It turns out to be a very easy fix and will cost me $137, and take about 15 to 20 min to fix. I should have looked on Angie's list first! Had I done so I would have seen the poor rating this company had!

I called them and they were on Angie's List. They were horrible. They made me wait for a month. In the mean time, my refrigerator died so I had to buy another refrigerator. They waited for a $400 part that I didn't even need. My refrigerator wasn't that old. I could have repaired it under warranty. I had problems with the warranty people they sent out before. They did refund my $200 deposit. They came out and I gave them the $200 deposit. They never called me for a month. It was an issue for service. I won't recommend them to anyone.

I did not hear from them on Wednesday, so I called Thursday. The receptionist was very courteous and professional, but stated she did not see that the part had arrived. She stated she would contact the technician for details and would call me after speaking to him. I did not receive a call that day. On Friday morning, I called again and was told the same thing; she would call me back after speaking to the technician. After not receiving a return call that morning, I called back that afternoon and was told the same thing as my previous calls.
The next day (Saturday), I decided to repair the dryer myself. I called Pacific Coast parts distributor and was able to pick up the replacement part the same day. Pacific Coast has a chain of stores throughout Caifornia and anyone including Smith Brothers could have purchased a part from them. While repairing my dryer, I received a call from Smith Brothers stating the part had arrived and that the technicain wanted to schedule an appointment. I told the receptionist that I was very disappointed in them and that I was making the repairs myself.
Positive: 1. Receptionist was courteous and professional 2. Initial appointment was timely. 3. Technicain accurately diagnoised problem.
Negative: 1. Several no return phone calls 2. excessive days before part arrived or picked up. 3. Failure to update customer.

The job performed was complete and professional. I looked up these parts online afterwards and was surprised how inexpensive they were compared to the quote. However I think the sticker shock from being in California is why I thought both the parts and the labor were extremely high. I did not call too many places on Angie’s List and I did not ask for a labor rate so I am not sure if this is the going rate. I will also assume that the 5 year warranty given by Smith Brothers appliance repair must be built into both these prices. I think I will call around more to get at least a labor rate before choosing someone again. I was not unsatisfied with their work just the price. I have indicated I would not use them again, but if I call around and this is what other company’s in southern California charge, then I would use them again.
