H & S Cleaning Supplies Vacuum & Sewing Center

I found this company on Angie's list, and with the prior good review, decided to use them. I took my vacuum cleaner in on Sat., July 9, 2011. There was a teenage girl at the counter. I said I wanted to have my vacuum fixed. She said okay and handed me a claim ticket to fill out my name and phone number. She then said that was it. What? I said,"Shouldn't I tell someone what is wrong?" She told me not to worry, they would fix it. I then asked if they would call with an estimate and she said yes. As I was leaving, a man came out from the workroom and said hello. I told him the problem and he said he could fix it. I asked when it would be ready and he said Monday or Tuesday.

On Monday, July 11, I called because no one had called with an estimate. They told me it was finished and I could pick it up. I asked for the price and they told me $79. I said that seemed high, and noted no one called with an estimate. The person on the phone (I think it was the teenage girl) said I could pick up the vacuum anytime.

On Tuesday, July 12, I went by to pick up the vacuum. Same girl at the counter. Definitely not happy about working there. I said I was there to pick up the vacuum and she asked my name. She did not ask for my claim ticket. She pointed at a group of vacuums and asked which one was mine. (Wow! Had I seen a Dyson . . . . ) I selected my vacuum and she told me it was $38.00 Okaaaay.

When I went to pay, I pulled out my Visa card. There is a Visa sticker on the front door. The girl told me I couldn't use Visa. I asked why not and noted the sign on the door, and that nowhere does it say no credit cards. At that point, the man I had seen on Saturday came out and told me the Visa terminal was not working. He said something about "new owners" and that's why no Visa, whatever that means. It's a good thing I had enough cash on me. I almost never have more than $20 in my wallet.

I haven't really run the vacuum yet and will update this report after I have put it to the test. In the meantime, communication and professionalism are severely lacking at this enterprise. Maybe there's a better place out there.
