Their regular maintenance cost is not that outrageous, but if you ask them to do something more complicated, watch out.
I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD LENNOX WHICH WAS EMITTING A TERRIBLE ODOR WHEN AIR CONDITIONING ON. THIS UNIT WAS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED BY ANOTHER COMPANY. I HAD HEARD "THE GENERAL" WAS AN EXCELLENT COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH SO I CALLED ON A SATURDAY NEVER THINKING ANY ONE WOULD BE THERE HOWEVER, TO MY SURPRISE A VERY NICE YOUNG LADY ANSWERED, AND HELPED ME IMMENSELY.(THAT DAY I BECAME A "GENERAL" CUSTOMER.) SHE MADE AN APPOINTMENT. IVAN CAME OUT(HE WAS PRECISE, AND EFFICIENT) TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM, AND WITHIN 30 MINUTES SAID IT WAS EXCESSIVE RUSTING, AND THAT LENNOX WAS CONTACTED, AND WOULD SHIP A NEW COIL TO THEM TO BE INSTALLED AS SOON AS IT ARRIVED. A FEW DAYS LATER I WAS CALLED AND, TIM D AND GABE CAME, BOTH DID A FANTASTIC, AND THOROUGH JOB. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND PLEASANT. THE NEW COIL WAS INSTALLED, AND NOW EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD, NO MORE ODOR, AND I AM SO HAPPY. MAY I SAY IT IS SO REASSURING TO KNOW "THE GENERAL" WILL BE THERE SEVEN DAYS A WEEK IN CASE I EVER HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM.
Unfortunatelly, this is a repeat performance. When I originally purchased this Lennox Signature Series A/C from General Air back in 2012, I went through these same issues. Their work is good but General Air has customer service issues that haven't been addressed by their management. Regardless of what their radio commercials say, it isn't true.
This is going to be my last experience with Generl Air
Another person came out to evaluate our heating and A/C system. Oh, the problems he found that could easily be resolved by buying their $15,000 system. Or, resolved by buying their $12,000 system. I explained to the salesperson that I didn't have that kind of money.
Regarding the very ("VERY") low Freon, I had the home warranty contractor come out, and the technician said the Freon level is fine. It doesn't need to be recharged (for several hundred dollars). This leads me to believe General trains their technicians to upcharge on any service call.
I purchased their service contract, and they came back in the late fall to service the furnace portion of the system. The service technician proceeded to tell me that parts were missing from the system and my furnace needed immediate attention. Since the home warranty contractor said the furnace looked okay, I presumed this was another attempt by General to solicit additional business from unsuspecting customers.
I will never use General Heating and Air again.
They accommodated our installation date, even starting work on a Saturday. The work was extremely thorough and professional. The team puts on shoe coverings when entering the house. They cleaned up after themselves. They have someone repair the damaged drywall (from the ceiling crawl space since the units were too big to easily remove). They took away all the removed parts. They got the proper city permits to have the work done. They trained us on how to use our new thermostats. Jason and Nate were the leads on our project and explained thoroughly what they were doing. They discussed what they found during the install that required small changes to our initial plan. They were very easy to talk to about the options and tradeoffs.
All employees are employees, not contractors. They are drug-tested and background-checked. They also participate in a profitsharing program, incenting them to do the work properly. If something isn't right they will work with us to make it right. We learned all this by talking with them during the sales and installation process.
I expect to get a call for their maintenance plan. That's part of any smart heating/air company's business, just like a car dealer wants you to get your oil changed with them. Since we paid the same as a car for this install we're likely to use them for maintenance. Who else knows the system better than those who installed it?
Yes, they cost more than others. But if you want a job done right by people you're comfortable having in your house with systems that will last, use The General.
General was the highest bid, even after consideration of the Costco rebate. After some negotiating General included some extra features and their bid was then approximately consistent with the other bid which included the permits. The salesperson, Estee was technically competent and understood my concerns and really worked hard to get our deal done. She then followed up to make sure all arrangements were made to my satisfaction and kept me posted on the full process.
On the day of the install, the install team identified a major design problem with the initial construction of the duct work some 30 years earlier. They devised a work around the problem and spent 2-3 man hours plus materials creating alternative duct work while not destroying and finish work at the house. The arrangement was a fixed price to get the system installed and pass the permit process. They didn't ask for any extra fees for the extra work they clearly did not anticipate. (We of course bought dinner and refreshments for the crew).
They knew before they started that the install had to be completed in one day due to some travel issues on my part. They started at about 9 AM and finished at about 10:30PM. The install specs included a specialized filter - on the day of the install they didn't have that one so they brought an upgraded one with no extra charge to me.
everything, he did not use the correct part and had to bastardize a part
to make it work. Needless to say I will not be using them again, and
will discourage friends and family from using them as well.
