I found Webster Sprinkler in the phone book and called them up because my husband and I could not get one of our sprinkler stations in the front yard to work. The valve worked and the control box worked, so it had to be an electrical problem, which my husband was not willing to try to fix. I explained the problem on the phone and the man I spoke with assured me that he could fix it. He offered to come out for free to look at it and if it was as I described then it should only cost around $50 to fix. We made an appointment for 8am on Monday. On Monday morning around 7:15 my dogs started barking and woke me up. My alarm wasn't set until around 7:30. I went to the door and saw someone standing outside. I ran to get a robe on and put my dogs back in the bedroom. I am really lucky that I didn't put my dogs in the yard because when I opened the door no one was there but there was a strange car in my driveway and my back gate was open. When I went into the back yard and confronted the man he introduced himself as the sprinkler guy. I am sorry, but no one should ever walk into someone's yard without permission. So, we got off to a bad start but I figured this was just a harmless old man who didn't think about what he was doing. I explained the problem and he started looking at things. He came to the same conclusion as I did that there was a problem with the wiring. Instead of rewiring the station properly he decided that the best course of action would be to wire the first station in with the second station so that they came on together and bypassed the bad wire. I was not happy with this because then too many sprinklers would be on at the same time and I know that I would not be able to get any water pressure if I needed it inside the house while those sprinklers were on. I explained to him that I had hired him because I wanted the sprinkler fixed properly with each station running independently. He was not happy and argued with me for a while about it. I was just about to make him leave and hire someone else when he said that he could buy the new wire but he couldn't install it until Wednesday. It wasn't even 8:00 am yet, why couldn't he install it today? Our appointment technically hadn't even started and he wanted to skip out on my. We had another argument and he came up with another solution. He cut the wire before it went underground to test where the problem wire was. Apparently the damage to the wire was underground, so he thought he could just use the small piece of wire in his truck to finish the line and bypass the underground portion of my wire. I still wasn't happy about this because then I don't have a continuous wire and I have one more place where a connection can come loose and cause me problems in the future. He just wasn't willing to do the work properly. I let him do the work because I wanted working sprinklers. I just watched how he wired everything so that I could do it myself. He could tell that I wasn't happy with my work and mentioned "Boy how times have changed." I am sorry, but I always thought that way back whenever people had the common courtesy to not trespass onto someone's property and people fixed things properly. That is how my grandfather always tells me things were. Anyways, at least I was able to learn how to do the wiring by watching him so that I can do it myself from now on.
