It was horrible. I had to report him to the main company. It was just terrible. The contractor should have been arrested. He has an anger issue. He was violent and angry. He almost destroyed the $1600 painting. He put a big dinger with his ladder in my molding in the kitchen. He was yelling at me at the top of his lungs because I took a battery out. He's a maniac. The main company in Carolina forced him to apologize to me but he wouldn't do it in person. He did it in an email.

Brian installed our skylight about 2.5 years ago. The install went fine. I agree with others - he seemed to want to finish the job quickly and get out - which is fine as long as the work is done correctly. Through the rains the first half of this year we noticed a leak appear on the ceiling. He did come back today to check on it, but clearly was not in any mood to accept any responsibility. He seemed more interested in blaming the trees, the flashing (that he installed) and anything else but the quality of the work.  These may indeed be factors, but bottom line, there was not leaking before the install and there is now. At a bare minimum his install is at least partially to blame.
Moreover, Brian's attitude was defensive, bordering on aggressive. When I asked him "why?" he simply stormed away. Hardly any way to treat a customer and certainly no way to run a business. I would not recommend.

Not a people person.  Just wants to get job done.  Quickly went over what he recommended.
Did not dwell on the disadvantages of what he had suggested.  Learned later than perhaps
I should have gotten the blackout shades - since the ones he recommended let quite a bit
of light in the room when drawn.
He couldn't believe that I was not happy. And insisted he gave me what I wanted.  Suggested
if I was still unhappy, it would cost $325 or so to replace each blind.

He was great.  I don't have a lot of comparison because they are the only skylight company I dealt with.  He was very good.  He was very responsive and informed as far as telling me the feature of the product & so forth.  It was sort of an emergency situation where I had a broken skylight.  He came over the same day and gave me an estimate.  He came back within a few days.  He was very good.  He was very well informed.  He was certainly interested in giving me responses to the question I have.  I used him only one time.

We hired Brian to remove a really old skylight and replace it with a modern solar-powered one that opens via remote control. He priced out multiple options for us, and made it easy to tell what was going on and exactly how much we would pay.
We did this while having our roof replaced, and Brian and the roofer (Mitch Hale -- also recommended!) worked together seamlessly to get everything done on time. We love the new skylight!

Brian arrived on time and navigated our tile roof without damaging the tiles. (This requires skill)
Unfortunately, the install of the product was a disappointment in three areas:
1) Professional Install: A skylight is held in place by screws. I noted to Brian that on several sides the skylights were only held in place by one screw. He responded "4 screws are ample to hold a skylight in place." I asked if this would impact our VELUX warrantee and he indicated no it would not. Having recently experienced damaged caused by high-winds, I called VELUX and to confirm if Brian assertion was correct. It was not. For a proper install, all provided screws need to be used. This is a basic installation requirement. Brian did use all screws once I pointed this out to him.
2) Cleanliness: I pointed several streaks in the windows. Brian indicated these would "was" off the dew next day. I asked if the window could be cleaned. He stated trying to clean them would likely result in more streaks. I called VELUX again, and they confirmed the windows can be cleaned just like any other glass window. Net, I don't think Brian cared enough to take the time and leave a clean install. (See photos.)
3) Consideration of our Property: While carrying out a small ladder. Brian gauged our front door frame. "Opps"
I think Brian is a nice guy and has a really good sales pitch. "I was the one who installed your original Skylights" But in the end, I got the distinct impression he was in a rush and allowed his haste to impact the quality of our project.

Response from SUNBURST SKYLIGHT CO
"I am sorry thay (removed member name) had a bad experience with Sunburst Skylight Co. The weatherman had called for temperatures to be in the triple digits that day so I was out there early to get it done. The first thing we do is to spread plastic drops to protect the home in case there is any debris that falls in during the replacement process, (removed member name) was very helpful with this. Next I removed the old existing skylights and set them at the edge of the roof. Subsequently the new skylights were taken up the ladder to the roof and were then set on the curbs, squared up and a few screws put in to hold them in place. (removed member name) was very interested in the whole procedure and in fact he set up his own laddder to observe. He asked if the few screws that were already place were enough to hold them and I replied they were but I was not finished with the installation. (removed member name) then went inside and called the manufacturer about the recomended fastening procedure as I finished up on the roof . I then programmed the operable skylight , picked up the plastic drops and removed the old skylights from the roof. Velux Skylights are shipped in sealed cardboard boxes with styrofoam corners for protection. They are basically spotless when they are removed from the boxes. (removed member name) questioned me about a couple of smudges on the glass and I told him that it is not a good idea to attempt to clean the glass when it was so hot out. It is my experience with glass skylights that you run the risk of blowing the outside tempered glass if you try to clean them when the surface temperature on the roof is 100 + degrees, which it easily was. (removed member name) must have mistunderstood my meaning and took it as if I said that glass skylights cannot be cleaned. Glass skylights are easily cleaned just not under these conditions. As I was leaving the residence I did ding the front door casing with my ladder ,as (removed member name) followed. I said "oops" , asked if there was anything I could do, was told no and I was finished and left the job"

My experience with him was fine. He was a very nice guy. He didn't hard sell, he just presented his product. I just ultimately decided not to go that direction.

After meeting with Brian McQuade of Sunburst Skylight Co. I decided immediately that he was the contractor for this job. He was professional, courteous and straight forward. He came on the date he said he would...he came ON TIME...and completed the job that day. His work was neat and he left no mess. I highly recommend Sunburst.

VERY HAPPY WITH THE NEW SKYLIGHTS. IT WAS NECESSARY TO HAVE THEM CHANGED OVER BECAUSE THE OLD ONES WERE VERY OUTDATED, AND LOOKED WARN AND UGLY. NEW IS GOOD.
