It went very well. I wasn't aware that I needed to change my filter several times a year. And that was the problem I had a dirty filter. He changed the filter and reset the furnace. He also spent the time to show me where the filter was and how I could change it myself to save money on a service call. He explained how important it was to change the filter to insure my unit works properly.
The second day, when the new equipment arrived, they scratched their head on how they were going to install it as they apparently did not think of the size of the new equipment (mind you one of the other bids did take this into consideration, as they had an additional day included in their completion timeframe). They had to call the supplier who showed up to scratch his head too. In the meantime the crew continued to rustle around the attic, cough, complain, and act unprofessional.
On the third day the north unit was installed, and it seemed to work. However, it was not installed to code apparently, as the inspector required that they fix a few things. Furthermore, they never repaired the ceiling. Later, when pressed, the owner Ken said, "I have a neighbor who does drywall who can repair it." When I asked if he is a drywaller, Ken responded that he was a trucker, but needed work. I could not believe this.
When installing the south unit they apparently used existing drain lines for the condensation line. However, it was the dead of winter, and the last time the air conditioner was used was prior to when we had the house completely renovated, which completed in October 2012. So the old air conditioner and old lines had not been used since the bathroom had been renovated. Ken, and the haphazard crew at Temecula Valley Heating & Air decided rather than running new lines, or at the very least, testing the old lines to be sure that the brand new bathroom they passed in front of every day did not cap the drain line, tied into the line sticking out in the attic, which was capped at the faucet apparently. Had they taken an eight foot cable and snaked the line they would have realized it was capped. More importantly, had they had any common sense, after seeing a brand new single vanity on a wall long enough for two sinks, they would have stopped to make sure the 15 gallons a day condensation would escape into the drain.
Finally, the faulty installation may have been ok had they installed or tied into the existing emergency line, or tested the emergency shut-off on the unit, to make sure the unit had some sort of emergency shut-off that was not defective. Rather than doing any of the things a good contractor would do, these guys cut the corners and literally created a hazard.
In June 2013, at the first of summer, when the air conditioner first began to run for the season, the water condensation (15 gallons a day apparently) did not escape into the drain, did not evacuate through an emergency line, and the unit did not shut-off because of faulty or defective shut-off line. Rather, several days worth of condensation backed up and overflowed into my attic, down my walls, into the crown molding, all the way to the baseboards, bubbling the paint in three separate rooms. Worse, while planning for my son's birthday party, the ceiling to the guest bathroom dropped into the bathroom, saturated with water and what appeared to be the beginning of mold spores.
When we had Ken, the owner of the dba and the license holder over to look at the damage, he first stated his contract does not warranty leaks (as if this is possible when your business is to install water lines), he then stated that he tested the line and it worked, but when pressed he admitted he did not personally test the line, he then stated that I should turn it over to my homeowners insurance, and then he finally stated that the sink was replaced "after" he installed the air-conditioning unit, so the line was capped after he installed it, even though this was impossible because the remodel occurred prior to my moving into the property in November of 2012, which I have plenty of documentation and eye witness accounts of.
When we were looking at the damage, and I asked why the emergency line was not evacuating the condensation, he said that they could not tie into the line because it was not code, that is why they used the drain line. Guess what, the next Monday when he had his guy, Guy, come out the next Monday to fix the line, guess what line Guy used as a quick fix so that the unit could be used, that is right, the old emergency line, which according to Ken, was not up to code. They have not been back since, not to make the appropriate repair, not to ensure that the water dripping from the line is proper, and not to address the crack in the drywall at the north.
We took it to the insurance, and all we asked was they pay the deductible, which Ken refused.
The licensed contractor who reviewed the workmanship found it to be shoddy, unprofessional, and haphazard. Needless to say, this is a company of crooks and incompetence. Do not fall for the sob story! I have been unable to use the bathroom since June 2013, my fear is that there is mold where the water seeped in behind the wall, and this company, who said they warranty there work really does not do anything but lie, cheat and steal. This is not all of it, but it is the gist. Bottom line, don't go here.
