Low Cost Moving

I chose this company because it was supposed to be a better 'deal' than others that I had gotten quotes from. Little did I know that in the long run it would cost me MUCH more than had I gone with a more reputable carrier. The pick-up date was agreed upon and then I was surprised to hear that three days later ( much sooner than was expected) I was getting messages on my phone that the truck would be arriving in a few hours. The large moving truck arrived and I was informed that I needed to produce extra cash because the entrance to my house was a few feet further from the truck than was stated in the contract. I had no friends available to oversee the delivery so I had to run to the bank and leave the (very pushy) delivery man alone to unpack the truck. Because I was  not present, I was not able to make an accounting of each box that was being delivered. When I returned with the cash my apartment was filled with stacks of boxes and there was literally no way for me to check the list for accuracy. The mover was in such a rush when he left that when he drove down the street he pulled power lines down and did not stop to inspect the damage and live wires that were laying in the street.
It was a day later when I realized that I was missing several things. I reported the missing items to the company and they referred me to a claims agency. I asked if I could get the names and phone numbers of the other customers that were getting deliveries from the same truck. None of the other people that were getting deliveries had received the lost items. One woman did eventually call me when she found a rechargeable vacuum and a camp chair. Over time I came to discover that my boxes had been rifled through and the valuable items were removed. Irreplaceable paintings and prints were gone as well as electronic devices from their original factory boxes. The claims department and my renter's insurance could not prove that there was theft involved so I have not received any compensation for my losses.
I have now come to discover that this kind of activity goes on all the time. It is unfortunate and sad.

Low Cost Moving aka Reliable Low Cost Moving could not be farther from
the actual experience.  I had a good experience at the beginning and
went through the process of estimating the cost of my move.  I received a
quote for 4900.00.  This seemed low to me.  I was moving from Seattle
to New York.  I asked on the phone, are you sure this is right?  They
said, "yes, based on the stuff you told us about".  I stated that we
have a lot of stuff, and we went through every major item in our house
line by line.   On the day of our move, the company that showed up was
not Low Cost.  They had bought the contract from Low Cost Moving, and
had the printed estimate, took one look at my stuff and told me that
there was not way this estimate was correct.  They brought  a truck that
was too small and had a small amount of other people's stuff already in
it.   After packing up all my stuff, getting an extra truck, they
presented me with a visual estimate done on-site as my stuff was
loaded.  It was for just over 11k.   This was insane.  How can they be
wrong by more than 100%?  What recourse does one have with all of your
stuff in a truck?   There was no way to verify that the inventory was
correct as all the stuff was loaded and it was an all-together horrible
experience.  On top of that, Low Cost Moving was impossible to deal
with.  At one point I asked to be transferred to someone's voicemail to
leave a message and I got cut off.  When I called back the person
explained to me that there was no voicemail, so that means someone
transferred me to a voicemail that doesn't exist just to get rid of
me.   I asked for a reasonable compromise...to take the 6k in overage
and split it with them.  3k that I pay, 3k that they pay.  They decided
to do nothing.  Don't ever work with these people.   The whole way in which they do business is underbid, get you to sign on, drop the real cost on you when all your stuff is in the truck and then explain that estimation is an imperfect process.  That is a crazy way to do business.
