Description of Work: We are both landlords and (were) renters, so have seen both sides of this relationship (though STARR does NOT manage our home). As renters, we were extremely disappointed in STARR in how we were treated and how our complaints were dealt with. While some of the issues may well have been the fault of the landlord not responding to them, they were not helpful in general. One of the first bad experiences occurred early on. We had a microwave with a rusted out hole in the back (inside) of it. Clearly it was NOT safe to use. My initial maintenance request was denied, with a comment from the owner stating "it worked when [s/he] lived there". (The owner, for the record, "lived" there just long enough to get the owner-occupied mortgage rate.) It was only after I sent pictures and asked a lawyer to help me word my request did they come and replace it. Likewise with the stairs leading up the back slope to the top of the levy. The wooden beams were very loose making it dangerous. They, again, initially stated it wasn't their problem. I noticed over time that they would "close" my tickets within their system as soon as they forwarded it to the owner, leaving no way for me (or them) to track the outcome of the ticket. While we left the house significantly cleaner than we found it, and repeatedly asked the person who did our final walk through if there was anything else we needed to do to get our full deposit back - and was assured that it all looked great, they still took over $100 from us to have the carpets cleaned (something I could have done for a $30 rental at Home Depot). Not impressed. Would NEVER recommend them to renters OR to landlords.
