We hired Jiri to repair a gas-fed bedroom fireplace which is activated by a wall switch. He ordered the hard to find replacement part. The supplier failed to deliver the part timely, preventing Jiri from completing the work when expected. For several weeks thereafter Jiri diligently followed up with the supplier, keeping us fully informed of his efforts. When the supplier finally located and delivered the part, Jiri promptly arranged to install it, effecting the repair. The fireplace now works well. Nevertheless, because the job was not completed when originally agreed, Jiri refused payment, explaining that the delay, while not his fault, was not our fault either, and he had promised the work would be done sooner than it was. It was reassuring to see a tradesman stand behind his product and his promises.
