Hardwood Flooring Service
After 20 years and raising 3 boys (you know what that will
do to carpets) we decided to replace the carpet in living room, dining room,
master and guest bedrooms and den with solid oak flooring as well as the
stairway leading to the second story (The Boys Area) of our home in Mountain
View. We had existing hardwood in the entry, a long hall and the family room
that was already solid oak but stained a light color and we wanted to darken it
to match the color we'd selected for the new floors.
We went with solid red oak, (random length)...made in
AMERICA...medium stain. It is outstanding looking. Could be featured in
Architectural Digest.
To further complicate the project, we had a step down living
room that we wanted raised to the level of the balance of the house.
As many of you may know, when a home is built to have
carpeting, contractors don't make any effort to ensure they are level...thus
was the case with us...toss a marble on the uncarpeted sub floor and it would
take 15 minutes to stop rolling...okay, a slight exaggeration, but it was way
off being level. Mike and his team took care of all that. They even rescrewed
all the existing sub flooring to the floor joists (every 6 inches or so....) to
avoid any possibility of future squeaks.
One more complication...we chose to live in the upstairs
portion of the house while all this was going on. I do not recommend this
approach...if you can, move out for the 2-3 weeks....it's noisy and dusty...
We took several bids and analysed them carefully, getting
many references for each.
Muirwood Floors, while not the least expensive, blew us away
with customer reviews, and most importantly the confidence we had in Mike from
the first meeting. We couldn't be happier. Mike came in on budget and on time.
Mike and his assistant arrived on time every morning. Extra
crew were added to raise the floor and later to install baseboard...BTW, we had
a professional painter from Sacramento paint the entire downstairs after the
floors were done and he commented that the quality of flooring and baseboard
installation was the best he'd seen in over 30 years in the business!
Use them again?...in a heart beat.
