Our HOA had a 150ft eucalyptus tree that was lifting at the base after weeks of rain 2023…. We were worried about this tree falling on our townhome’s. Jeremy and TJ jumped into action found us a crane to remove this tree within 24 hours. Davies tree service team was very professional, getting the job done in a timely manner. Yes!! Contact called for stump removal which wasn't completed as the small stump grinder broke. Took several months and multiple minders to get job completed. The arborist was really good, knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend her work.

The short story: Nature First is a keeper!
The long story: Very professional and knowledgable owner and crew. On the first appointment, I was impressed with Mimi's capability to put me at ease with her knowledge and genuine care for every tree we discussed. She understood my real concern that one wrong cut could take years to recover. She also pointed out how to protect the coast live oak long term by cabling the twin trunks. When the crew arrived, the trees were done in sequential order to allow for two arborist in each tree at all times while reducing, thinning and shaping. I'm happy to say that in my estimation, Nature First is the best Tree Barber in the Bay Area. What were two very overgrown and messy liabilities that scattered dead leaves, branches etc. into all the surrounding neighbor's yards, turned into two very beautiful assets to the property. The value of the trees far outweigh the cost of maintenance, especially when done by professionals who understand and respect your investment as Nature First has proven to me.

Interaction was pleasant work completed at requested. Price was competitive, although higher than others. Angie's list discount allowed us to save $75. The only discouraging part was, as it was for a rental unit, we were not able to be onsite to pay at completion. I requested someone call upon completion or I could pay by credit card at its completion. I was told that credit card payments required a 3 day approval process. So in the end I had to leave a check under the mat for them before the work was even complete. Fortunately, they did a good job.

I went to OSH where she said I could buy it, but they didn't have the one she'd recommended for the roots--just one for foliage. I called her and told her. She then went to OSH and called me back in a few days. She said it wasn't called what she'd said originally, but the label said it was OK for roots. So I went back. It did not say anything about ground application on the label, but in the lengthy directions there was one place in indoor plant directions that said you could put it in the dirt. So I followed the directions about how to mix it and put it around the tree. I used the whole bottle and there still wasn't enough. The stuff cost $15 and she had said to use it weekly all summer! I gave up. Later I had another tree specialist out who said I should just have the tree removed.

"Our Certified Arborist, Gaynor Spielman returned from vacation today and we discussed the situation with the customer’s apple tree. She said that the customer’s account is correct and that the apple tree appeared to be suffering from Woolly Aphids. Gaynor went to Orchards and asked them to set aside a bottle for the customer that would be suitable for treating this condition. Since the customer seemed to want to save the apple tree, and Gaynor didn’t feel the tree should be removed, she suggested an alternative to the customer at that time. The alternative involved planting another apple tree which was resistant to Woolly Aphids. The customer could plant the new one and continue to watch the old one. Woolly Aphids are hard to control and that’s why this new variety of apple tree was developed. We understand that, at $15 a bottle, treatment could become expensive. In order to save the tree rather than remove it, this treatment appeared to be the best option. We’re sorry we were unable to offer better solutions than the ones we proposed. Planting a new resistant apple tree may be the best option."

Mimi came out to advise me on how to handle some tree issues and then gave me an estimate for the work, breaking out each task, so I could prioritize the tasks if the estimate was too high for my budget. It took quite a while and a few phone calls to get the estimate, but I found out later that there were some extenuating circumstances (health issues) that prevented a prompt response and I don't think this would be a problem in the future. Other than that, the company was very professional. Mimi came out with the tree guys on the day the work was to be performed and we went over everything to make sure we were all on the same page. They told me exactly what they were going to do before doing it. They were friendly and polite and they cleaned up everything beautifully when they were done. I was really pleased with the results.
