Sandy insisted on using his sub-contractors, specifically stating they were the best he knew. He and his assistant tore out the master bath and piled it in the front yard. Next the sheet rock guy came in and did his work. While the work itself was apparently quite good, the sheet rock guy took no precautions to minimize or even control the huge volume of fine sheet rock dust that was created. My son's entire bedroom was covered with a layer of talcum power-fine sheet rock dust. A week after the start of the job, the sheet rock was done and ready for the tile guy. The pile of debris in the front yard had not moved or shrunk yet. The tile guy came in and did his job. He decided (and my son approved) to "float" the tile, as using backing board would shrink the already small shower space. He did his work well (w/ large tiles), but not anywhere near flawlessly. He left his assistant to do the floor (1" tiles), which resulted in a horribly spaced and sloped floor. Several tiles were pointing upward enough to have been painful to step on. My son's wife tore out a couple dozen floor tiles and called him back. He was disappointed at his assistant's work as well, and even tore out a couple dozen more tiles. In the end, the tiles are set well but spacing and straightness are still off. About half way through the entire tile job (barely 2 weeks after the project started), my daughter-in-law asked Sandy (whom they were paying hourly for this) to take existing wood my son had and cut it down to finish the back deck railings. They wanted 1"x1" square stiles, set 4" on center. After Sandy "finished" a small 5' side section, my son and his wife saw that the stiles were neither square nor even/equal and that the spacing varied from 3" to 5". When my daughter-in-law asked Sandy to do it again, he immediately terminated the contract and told her "You're being nit-picky and you'll never be satisfied with anything I do. So we might as well call it quits now." No warning, no nothing. Just up and quit. Wouldn't even call his clean-up crew to deal with the pile of debris still in the front yard, just left his clean-up crew's phone number. So sad that someone would willingly take on a job, with clients willing to pay for good work, only to give the client sloppy work with an unprofessional and rude attitude.
Description of Work: My son hired Sandy to remodel the master bathroom, kitchen, paint house, fix asphalt driveway, add railings to the back deck and some other minor home repairs. Only managed to get part way through the master bathroom remodel.
