After I pulled up the old carpets in my 950 sq foot house, I found unevenness and minor level changes of my concrete floors. I had two choices, another carpet or a Luxury Plank floating floor. In looking at all the Luxury plank available, I had not considered the health or recycle benefits as a key factor. It was how they looked and the price.
I heard about the Welco "Drop and Done" floating fiberglass floor from Samaya's Eco Flooring. I went to their showroom and could see it already installed in the showroom. We pull up the unglued planks and I could see how they worked and the different designed planks looked. Nima, the owner, knew this product well and had already installed this Welco flooring in a the number of cafe and other business in the area. It was because of Nima's understanding of this product and a bit of research that I did online that I was able to find this product.
It was a nice bonus when I found the Drop and Done planks that I liked. With this product, the irritation to my throat would be minimal from chemical released in the air. And it was made from recycled materials. That was a win-win for me. I also liked the idea that this plank could be self-installed and had less wasted planks. And, if the next buyer of my house does not want it, I can remove it easily and take it with me.
The price Nima negotiated was fair for the plank and the install and it was done without delays. The other carpet stores that I contacted did not carry or know about this Drop and Done plank (or the low VOC/recycled information) so I was concerned that they would not have the experience to install it properly.
The Eco showroom is not huge but they are a busy flooring company keeping their many installer crews busy installing flooring all over town. You are given the cell numbers of the owner and Matt, the office manager so getting ahold of them is not an issue. When the particular design of plank that I wanted was not in stock at the California warehouse, Nima went the extra mile. He ordered it directly from the main distributer so that I could get the plank sooner and get it installed. I had been living with my furniture in the garage for over a month since the carpet had been removed. I wanted to have my home back as soon as we could.
The floor was put down 2 weeks ago and Nima had told that there would be minimal irritants from the fiberglass product and none from the adhesive and that it would only last a few weeks. They used zero-VOC glue on my floor as another protection which they suggested since I have sensitivities to chemicals in the air. I still air out the house every chance I have but there seems to be no irritating emissions at this point. I had only minor reaction after the first few days after the install. Nima is ecologically educated but his company carries many other flooring products at competitive prices.
I have done a lot of remodels over the past 20+ years and work often with contractors. The projects are never completely smooth but I appreciate when everyone focuses on the end product in a professional way. I think that Nima and his staff did that very well. I can recommend Samaya's Eco Flooring.
