HAMMOND FORD MERCURY

After my truck's 'check engine' light went on, I drove  to Hammond Ford in Sonora Ca. The service writer confirmed the details of my warranty and had the service mechanic/electrical specialist test the charging system. The test results indicated  that the alternator was not putting out any current.  I had to leave my truck overnight, so I had to rent a car locally. The mechanic replaced the alternator and I was called the next day to pick up my truck. Before I even made it home, about 30 miles, the check engine light came back on. I returned to the shop and again the test showed a bad alternator. I had to rent the car for three more days. After picking up my truck on day five, I  finally brought my truck home. Well, a few days later, you guessed it:  check engine light again! Fast forward 2 1/2 weeks, 200.00 worth of car rental on top of the warranty deductible ( Yes that WAS 2 1/2 weeks! ), and  after no less than 4 'bad' alternators, I finally got my truck back, fixed with alternator number five. The service department finally gave me a loaner car after the rental company needed their car back, or it would have been hundreds more for rental fees. The service department had only seen this many bad alternators for one single repair once before, and they don't know why there seem to be so many bad ones that are new off the shelf. The service department was appropriately apologetic and professional throughout the process, I only wish I had been able to get the free loaner car for the duration of the repair period, and had been able to save the 200.00 in rental fees! If I need any more warranty repairs I will take my truck back to Hammond Ford, as they did finally get it fixed, and they did give me a car to use for most of the repair period. I don't think this kind of problem is common to all repairs, and I would not hesitate to recommend Hammond Ford to my friends in the area.
