Something else we discovered is that Joe is very up-to-date on a wide variety of building and safety codes, which turned out to be handy with the first condo in particular.
Joe was happy to answer questions, and he obviously loves what he does, which means he makes replying to questions very interesting. He also brings a handy home maintenance book in a binder with tips and info from beginner through intermediate and even advanced levels of repair. Honestly our previous inspector missed all sorts of things, so we were very relieved at how thorough Joe was, and his report was easy to understand and also extremely thorough, including photos of any issues.
Joe is definitely the guy we'll use if we need an inspector in the future :)
I especially appreciated that Joe highlighted the aluminum wiring in the house, which prompted a follow-up electrical inspection where many fire hazards were detected.
My only quibble was that Joe and his assistant had a friendly disagreement regarding the cause of a bathtub leak in front of the seller's agent. The seller's agent later tried (unsuccessfully) to use the internal disagreement as leverage to discredit other findings in the inspection report. However, this was a minor footnote to the overall experience and I would absolutely use Joe's services again and would recommend him to friends/family. I always felt confident that Joe had my best interest at heart.
