I didn't want to resort to this, however, every opportunity for a simple response was given to Turpin Landscaping for the past week. As you can see, I've given numerous reviews and all 5 stars, but this experience left me no choice but to give my first negative review and hopefully the only one I ever have to. I guess the initial red flag should've been how few reviews there were on YELP, Google, Home Advisor, etc. with top ratings for this business. Might've been personal friends and family or actual customers he serviced. Either way, the 5 stars are not warranted based on my experience and who knows how many more potential customers he's treated this way. I reached out to Turpin a little over a year ago when getting estimates for a simple concrete walkway install for the side of our house. A one to two day job max. He came by and told me what needed to be done and provided an estimate the first time. His prices were fair and I felt he was the most personable, very knowledgeable, and the person for the job. Couldn't meet him in person but he offered to stop by a take a look which he did. Due to sudden financial issues, we were unable to proceed then, however, did let him know when we were able that he would be the person we'd use. I gave him my word then. Even got a call from his office person to check in almost a year later and I let her know that in about a month's time we'd be ready and reaching out. I praised them again and thanked them for their follow-up. Last Tuesday, I reached out to Tyler to let him know we were ready and even left work early to accommodate his schedule to come by for another look. He remembered the property and basically told me what they were planning to do. Let him know how good it was to finally meet him face to face. It was a good meeting or so I thought. As we departed he promised to get me the estimate ASAP and figured he would be able to get the 2-day job done either last week or this but would contact me soon. After not hearing back for a few days, I simply sent a text which thanks to Apple shows when someone "read" the text. He read but no response. No problem. Followed up again and again "read" but no reply. I then texted and asked if he was still interested and that it wasn't a rush but to offer any kind of response so that I knew how to proceed. Almost 5 days later and I left voicemails, texts, and emails just wanted a simple response as the initial promised dates and time-frames have now expired. I even tried to give him the benefit that his phone may have gotten lost or stolen. However, for zero responses to the company email, voicemail which still had his voice, etc. I can't imagine he hasn't received anything. He is rather young and maybe it's a millennial thing but when you put your name in a company and swear you stand by your work, yada, yada, yada, you can't simply not respond after many attempts to a customer because maybe you felt you didn't want the job any longer or whatever the reason. The secret to success is professionalism, quality of work, customer satisfaction, and referrals. I would've been a very good customer and would've provided rave reviews even if the work wasn't perfect. That said, we'll never know as he failed with the very basic step of communication which also shows his level of respect to people in general. This past week has made me lose all confidence in his ability to not necessarily start but finish the job and do it well. It concerns me that if there were any issues this company may not own up to them and instead of trying to remedy they may ignore and run away instead. It's bizarre that the owner of a company would behave this way and maybe it's due to his youth. But let this be a learning lesson that'll hopefully you'll actually learn from and try to correct. Otherwise, I can't imagine your company growing or definitely not with these stellar ratings and reviews.
