MRD Construction

After reviewing other contractors as well as acting as my own GC, I chose to contract with Matt from MRD. He came highly recommended from a neighbor and his pricing was both very good and broken down into detailed components. It would be hard to find any other legit contractors with overhead and profit rates as reasonable as MRD. Of course, his operation is very lean, no assistants or coordinators or project managers or sales people. Just Matt, always responding and being there. So, he won me over by breaking down the numbers exactly as I had asked. Every other aspect of the project was the same way in terms of professionalism and work ethic. Matt spent a lot of time here making sure everything was done right. He made great suggestions for design elements. His crew and his subs were very efficient, and we felt comfortable having them in the house. They always cleaned up and were respectful of the house. I am not easy to work with as I will question everything, and be there watching all the work getting done. Despite this, Matt and crew always responded to my inquiries with answers that turned out to be the best way to do the job.

I highly recommend the MRD Construction. We were very fortunate to find this company. We had a variety of things we had to fix on our house before we put it on the market and we needed a contractor we could trust to do great work for a fair price. Mathew, the owner of MRD Construction, is an extremely knowledgeable, highly experienced contractor who finds creative solutions for difficult problems and he has assembled an outstanding workforce of first-rate craftsmen. Mathew’s crew were always on time, worked hard with few breaks, did high-quality work restoring things to their original condition, met deadlines, and always cleaned up after work was done. Plus the price was very, very reasonable and Mathew always stuck to his estimates. This company is very versatile and can attack a lot of problems. Here is a list of some of the many things they repaired for us: Re-plastered swimming pool and Jacuzzi Replaced pool and Jacuzzi lights along with some electrical work Cleaned and painted garage Replaced an exterior door Restored front door to its former condition Restored a second deck to its former condition Caulked showers and bathtubs Fixed a large kitchen window Cleaned and painted Formica in laundry room Replaced and restored skylight to previous condition Painted hard to get to outdoor areas Fixed and repainted water damaged wood on exterior Finally, Mathew is a very personable guy who is easy to talk to. He clearly explains in detail the best way to fix things. He makes it easy to visualize the outcomes to different approaches.

The bid was fair. work started on time and was completed on time. There were no cost overruns. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day of Construction. I was very happy and would hire them again for any job

From start to finish, the construction of the pool went smoothly. Matthew Dorin kept us informed of every step throughout the process. When we changed our minds about design aspects, Matthew responded positively, making the changes in a timely manner, communicating options and upgrades that were available in a clear fashion, while always mindful of our budget. MRD's workers were always polite, on time, clean, and respectful. We love our new pool!

Great! Matthew and his crew were professional and respectful of us. Matthew followed up personally and inspected all the work and then went a little further in order to make sure everything was right with us and asked us to follow up incase anything came up later that we had questions with. He worked very hard to make sure our needs were met and the service was acceptable.

I ended up hiring MRD Construction for this. They we're quick, smart, nice and truly interested in finding the problems and providing solutions. The work contracted was done well and without disruption and when an added expense we needed Matthew gave me a clear understand as why and a very fair price. After the work was completed Matthew come by to inspect the final job, spent over an hour under my house looking at the work and provided pictures of all the work. He said if anything arose that caused concerns or questions he'd come right back out.

Matt and his crew did an incredible job!!! Matt is extremely professional and was always reachable to answer any questions or concerns that I had. I was able to stay on budget and couldn't be happier with the results!! Both bathrooms came out beautiful!! Matt & his crew did such a great job, I'm currently waiting to receive estimates from him for refinishing my hardwood floors, landscaping and resurfacing my swimming pool..

I am happy to say that in my nearly 30 years of being a homeowner and having rental properties Matthew is, without a doubt, the best contractor I have ever worked with. He is honest, punctual, fair, knowledgeable and respectful. He has a good eye and, when asked, provides feedback / opinion. I simply cannot recommend him highly enough. He completed the job on time and on budget. Not once did he do the "contractor-vanishing-trick". Once he started the job he was on it. He is very responsive to phone calls, text messages and email.

It went excellent. I got exactly what I needed at a price that I felt was reasonable for the time, work, and care given.

This was our second experience with Matthew and his team---the first time was a simple installation of a vinyl pool equipment enclosure---and wow, did it go as smoothly as a job as big as this could have gone!  Their preparation was the most significant thing of all.  This work touched almost every room in our house, so the way they planned it out was done to inconvenience us as little as possible, and, when they did have to inconvenience us, we knew about it long in advance.  And as for the physical preparation, the biggest thing was the scraping of the ceiling in our living room, which is the biggest room in the house.  This project was, naturally, going to create a lot of dust and dirt, and they did such an amazing job of prepping the area to prevent as much dust from getting in the rest of the house, I was very impressed.  They cordoned off their work space with plastic, so not only did we have a barrier from the work dust/noise, but it created an element of privacy for us as well. 

Matthew was always extremely responsive to my calls and texts whenever I had questions or concerns.  We had to pick things such as carpet and tile and the whole process went smoothly.  Matthew is extremely professional and a very nice guy---easy to work with and communicates exactly what he needs and what will be happening.  His team is professional as well, always respectful and hard-working. 

As for the final results, I couldn't be happier.  My new shower is gorgeous, we feel like we have a brand new bedroom...in fact, we feel like we have a brand new house!  he estimated two weeks and it lasted 3, but a lot of that had to do with the fact that we kept asking them for more things.  Every time I asked them to add something new to the job, they were extremely accommodating.  The quality of the workmanship is top-quality and I would recommend Matthew and his whole team to anyone, anytime. 

I am really glad to be able to write a positive review. This was a major project and took a few weeks to complete.  Without a good contractor, it could have been a very miserable experience. But I was fortunate to find Matthew Dorin at MRD Construction.

My approach was to find a contractor that was able to do the work. But just as important I wanted to find someone that I could work with as the project developed over time. I found Matthew extremely good at this.

I spoke to many contractors before deciding on Matthew. I made a good choice. I would (and have) highly recommend him for construction projects. And he will be returning shortly for more work.

Some bids were higher and some were lower than Matthew’s. But I feel like the price was very reasonable for the amount of work he did.

This project included:

1. Sandblasting and re-stucco: The sandblasting took one day and the base stucco coat was added shortly after. A few days later the color coat was applied. Matthew was helpful in selecting a great color and his team did an excellent job on finishing the job so that it looks great.
2. Repainting trim, fence, and backyard patio cover: All of the exposed wood on the house was repainted – even those areas that you don’t easily see. The job as well done including the wood molding on the house that gives it character. The enclosure was rebuilt around the pool equipment and now the gate works properly again. He also installed a door in place of the window in the detached garage.
3. Insulation: The walls of the house (built in 1939) were all insulated to reduce noise and improve efficiency. The team that worked on this was great. They had to drill a ton of holes around the house and then blow in the insulation. They actually put in a lot more insulation than they originally planned and there was no discussion of additional cost.
4. Windows: All of the windows in the house were replaced, including a slider in the back. This was done – amazingly – in just one day. Matthew was helpful in selecting the right windows for the house. Again the guys that installed the windows were very professional and knew what they were doing.  The round window in the front of the house was replaced with a larger version and Matthew’s team worked hard to finish it inside so that it looked as good as the original. With the insulation, the noise level from the street and the helicopters here in Burbank was immediately reduced. And the power bills have shown a great improvement already. MRD also handled getting the local permits for the windows and that was a very easy process.
5. Rebuilding the front porch cover: There was significant water damage over the years to the cover over the front door. MRD replaced everything that needed to go. But upon further inspection, more work was required and he came in with a reasonable price to cover it.
6. Interior plaster repair and repainting: The entire interior of the house was repainted. There were many areas that also needed repair and replacement from previous water damage. I was impressed on how hard his guys worked on doing it right. I expected it to be spackled, sanded, and painted. But they took the time to dig out every bit of damaged area and fix it. I think it will last longer that way.  They even refinished the wood mantle over the fireplace.  Matthew was very easy to work with on finding the colors that I selected in paint.
7. Hardwood floor refinished: All of the carpet throughout the house was removed. The original hardwood was sanded down and refinished. The guys that did this worked hard to repair the missing pieces (where a wall must have been at one time – and where the furnace was removed.) They were willing to keep working on it until it looks great.
8. Lighting: LED lighting was installed in the ceiling of the kitchen and front bathroom. What an amazing difference it makes to have that lighting and the installation was very professional.
9. Slate floor in family room and kitchen: Maybe one of my favorite parts of the remodel was installing natural slate tile in the kitchen, family room, laundry room, and back bathroom. The guys who did this part definitely knew what they were doing. The tile is very even – which I understand is not always easy to do with natural materials that could be different thickness. And the finish they suggested looks great.
10. Back bathroom upgrade: after seeing how well everything was turning out, I decided to upgrade the back bathroom with a new vanity and a few other things. This was also an additional expense, but he was very reasonable.
11. Carpeting: the back master bedroom was re-carpeted. Mathew had several samples to choose from and found a great quality of carpet and a good team to install it. It was done in just a matter of a few hours.

I also appreciated the way that Matthew finished up the project to completion. There weren’t a few things that just kept hanging out there while he moved on to another project. He wanted – as much as I did – to complete the work.

Again, I am so glad to be writing a positive review and would encourage anyone to talk to Matthew about their construction projects.

Matthew sent Javier to my house, who arrived promptly and helped me locate the source of the leak.  He helped me get a new hose and fixed the issue almost immediately.  He also helped me with an issue I was having under my sink quickly.  
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.  Very quick with replies, and service.  And especially friendly.

I hired Matthew and his crew to do repairs that were necessary for me to close escrow on a apartment property that I owned. The repairs ran the gamut and including a lot of troubleshooting leaks we found in the crawl space, replacing skylights, re-tiling bathroom vanity, locating an exterior gas leak, and replacing hot water heaters, among other things. They completed the job efficiently and were always aware of the strict deadline I was under in order to close escrow. This is an older property, so in the course of doing some repairs and inspections, we discovered other things that needed repairing. Despite these curveballs, Matthew made sure everything got done in timely manner and for a reasonable price. They worked well with the tenants and left the property clean and orderly after each day they worked. I highly recommend them.

Matt and his guys were on time, worked hard, were super friendly, and they did a great job. And they will be back soon enough for future projects. Couldn't recommend MRD enough.

Matthew and his crew showed up on time and prepared.  He is intelligent and easy to talk to
and his men were intelligent and hard working.  They finished the work quickly and 
efficiently and Matthew  inspected work with me to make sure it was done to my

As always, Mathew and his team did a outstanding job. The crew was always professional and polite. Everyone on site always did a fantastic job with great attention to detail. The biggest part of this project was the kitchen renovation. The original 1937 kitchen was never updated and was seriously needing help. Mathew had it gutted to the walls and the end result is nothing short of amazing. Custom cabinets, quartz countertops, tile flooring and a new powder room. I still can't believe that this is my kitchen! Every project that MRD Construction has done has turned out better than anticipated. I can't wait for the next one.

Matthew came in with his very efficient crew usually starting around 7 a.m. every morning and also working on Saturdays.  They came in and removed all the old appliances and hauled them away.  They started by preparing the floor by removing the old tile floor and evened out the floor before installing the new tile floor.  After the floor was installed the next step was the quartz countertops. The walls were painted so I was able to have my washer and dryer moved back into the laundry room so I only had to go to the laundromat twice during the remodel.  All of my appliances had been delivered before the work was started so there was no delay in the installation of the appliances where all the cabinets had been prepped by Matthew & his crew.  The kitchen looks so much brighter, larger and more efficient now. I'm so glad that we used MRD for our remodeling job. Matthew is very dependable, trustworthy and reliable.  He always kept in touch to let me know how the job was going even when I was away on vacation.

Very satisfied.  Matt and his team were professional and showed up on time.  Accommodated my heavy travel schedule.  Work product was excellent and disruption/ness was minimal.  I would definitely use them again.

Our living room popcorn ceiling was extremely uneven, and varied in height across the room by at least two inches. We chose to install beadboard over the popcorn rather than removing the popcorn and plastering for two reasons; we didn't trust that a plaster job would turn out well with such a wavy and uneven surface, and we like the appearance of beadboard. Matthew came in with a price we felt was fair, and scheduled the work. His two workmen were prompt, and took pains to make sure the area was cleaned up each night. First they put up boards attached to the joists, and then put in shims to level the boards. This was a painstaking process due to the uneven ceiling and discovering that part of the ceiling had previously separated from the ceiling joists. What initially looked like a five day job ended up taking seven days because of the challenging leveling process. Although they worked hard and efficiently, they did not rush the job to finish within the five days, but spent the extra time needed to make sure the end result was great. The seams were filled and primed, the crown molding corners were sharp and clean. The workers took pride in their work and were very pleasant. Matthew provided samples of beadboard and crown molding from which to make our selection, and tested for asbestos (fortunately it was clean) so he could scrape and paint a soffit. All ceiling lights were removed and reinstalled satisfactorily. We also had Matthew repair the stucco around our electrical panel. We are very satisfied with MRD Construction, and plan to use them in the future. I wish I could upload the fabulous photos but can't figure out how to do it.
 
 

Matthew was wonderful in every way. He did large jobs like installing travertine tile, painting rooms, doing stucco work and epoxy painting the entire floor of a 3-car garage. He also did smaller jobs like touch-up paint and power washing the entire 5000 square foot house and large circle driveway. His total task list had over 100 items on it. He did exceptionally high quality work on everything both on time and within the budget quoted. I live 100 miles away from the property where the work was being done. Matthew also was amazing in terms of keeping me informed every step of the way and adjusting his personal schedule to meet me at the property at my convenience when I was in town. I would DEFINITELY use MRD Construction again for any job large or small. I also intend to recommend his company to all my friends and family members if they ever need construction or repairs.

It went great. They were very good. They were very professional and on time. They gave us a great service. Price-wise, it was very fair. It was a good experience. I have nothing but positive things to say.
